[edit] Associated templates
I created the following associated templates to help bypass the redirects for AFC and NFC.
- Template:NFL team/AFC
- Template:NFL team/NFC

[edit] Suggestion
can we add a line for "number of NFL / Super Bowl Championships" ??
- Eventually, but it is currently low priority, especially since they are all currently listed in the lead section of all of the NFL team articles. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 07:57, 30 August 2005 (UTC)
- I recently added it now Zzyzx11 (Talk) 19:55, 22 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] New additions
I add new fields for the previous team nicknames and affiliations, along with a seperate row to list league championships other than Super Bowls. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 15:47, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Revisions
I have reworked the current NFL Team infobox by expanding it. I have though only applied it to the Chicago Bears page as of now. To view the code visit Template:NFL team demo.
- Note: I have proposed a way we can determine the Championships:
1920-1969: counts as an NFL Championship unless that team won a SB I-IV 1966-1969: AFL-NFL Super Bowl Championships: I-IV 1960-1969: AFL Championships unless that team won a superbowl which would fall under the AFL-NFL Super Bowl Championships 1970-present: Super Bowl Championships
- With all respect, you are putting way too much data in the Template:NFL team demo. Testing possible combinations on different NFL team articles (especially the short ones like Atlanta Falcons), and both 800x600 and 1024x768 monitors, the length screws up the formatting of the images on the articles, and the season-by-season table. I suggest removing the retired numbers and hall of fame players as we do list them later in articles. Best. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 19:39, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
- And yes, I know that Template:MLB infobox lists them, but they can get away with it because their articles are more developed. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 19:48, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
- Ok, I am willing to list the home fields on the infobox, and maybe the mascot and fight song, but I am very hesitant on putting everything but the kitchen sink on there. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 20:45, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
- I see what you are saying. Thanks for taking my suggestions. As for in the future, we can keep the info boxes as they are now and maybe create something new in the article for retired numbers and hall of famers.
- Another thing..why not keep the all-time record in there?
Also should we call the 1966-1970 as the AFL-NFL Super Bowl Championships becase that's how they are referred by the NFL and by our own articles?

- Here's what I have been doing so far:
- I am slowly adding data to the infobox, seeing how long in length they go. Another reason I want to do this is to get rid of those lists in the lead section because they really should not belong there.
- I use to have all-time records in the infobox, but I removed them after a couple of weeks into the 2005 season. Only some of the articles were being updated to reflect the results of the recently completed games (by various users and anonymous IPs), but most of them were not, and I was just too busy to update them all by myself. I plan to put them back maybe sometime after the regular season is over (updated, of course, with the results of the 2005 season).
- Yes, I am still having problems with the 1966-1970 AFL-NFL Super Bowl Championships. It further complicates matters when Super Bowl III was really the first one to official be called the "Super Bowl". So you get sites like the Pro Football Hall of Fame listing the Jets Super Bowl championship and the 1968 AFL Championship seperately [1], but other sites like Sportsline.com, that only lists the AFL championship but not the Super Bowl win. I have added a general manager field so that information can be included on team pages. Spicy 15:01, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- Also, will update each team's article. Spicy 15:03, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] AFL-NFL Super Bowl Championships, revisited
I added two new parameters, no_pre1970sb_champs and pre1970sb_champs, to indicate on the Packers, Jets, and Chiefs articles that these Super Bowls were won prior to the AFL-NFL Merger. Using a template conditional formula, they will toggle a footnote message similar to the content on http://www.packers.com/history/championships/ that they include the pre-merger Super Bowl wins in the Packers 12 overall championships. [edit] Too much data
Looking at the infobox, I feel like we should scale it back. There is way too much data on here. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 16:03, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- I feel like we should remove the radio broadcasters. There were objections mentioned on Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Chicago Bears/archive1 that "The Broadcasters section adds little encyclopedic value, and IMO should be removed." Zzyzx11 (Talk) 16:08, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- Get rid of the Radio Broadcasters. I agree. I will get rid of it. Anyone object? --Happyman22 18:29, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Renaming
Does anyone object renaming the League titles section to Championships since all the championships are called championships like division championships? --Happyman22 18:36, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Retired Numbers
How about adding the option of placing retired numbers by the franchises in the info box, but making the feature optional so users can add it to each franchise if they wish. I would like to add it to the Chicago Bears article because as it looks now the article ends with too many tables and I believe will never achieve feature status if it looks like it looks now.
- I do not agree for two reasons: Again, the infobox is a little too long as it is. But also, you open up the pandora's box with those teams such as the Ravens and Cowboys which do not officially retire jerseys, but do "retire" players into their Ring of Honor/Fame. Then you have caveats like the Bills, Dolphins, Bengals, Steelers, and the Lions that have some unofficially retired numbers. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 19:43, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- Besides, I am quite surprised about your concern about how the Chicago Bears ends - although I will admit I do not know what the current culture is on FAC. This was the version when Arsenal_F.C. was promoted. And this was the version when New England Patriots was promoted. As you can see, there are very simple bulleted lists at the end, which in my view is a little less noticable than wikitables. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 19:57, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- It was not really a problem with FIFA World Cup either. [3] Zzyzx11 (Talk) 20:22, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Stylized uniform template
I created {{American football uniform}}, to mirror {{Football kit}} (i.e., soccer uniform), {{baseball uniform}} and {{basketball kit}}. I think it would be great to add stylized uniforms to the team template, as is done here: {{Infobox football club}} and here {{Infobox baseball team}}, to give a visual representation of the team colors.
