The NFC South refers to the Southern Division of the National Football Conference of the National Football League that was created prior to the 2002 season when the league realigned divisions after expanding to 32 teams.
The NFC South currently has four members: Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Prior to the 2002 season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers belonged to the NFC Central while the other three teams were part of the NFC West. Since the realignment of the league, a team from the NFC South has appeared in each NFC Championship Game: Tampa Bay in 2003, Carolina in 2004 and 2006, Atlanta in 2005.
