The very rare Nezumia toi has the usual greatly elongated thin pointed tail of the rattails, as well as very large eyes and a short pointed ridged snout with three large spiny sclerites on the tip. There are a few large widely spaced serrations on the front of the first long dorsal fin ray, and the first pelvic fin ray is elongated. There is a small chin barbel.

The colour is grey-black on the body with a brownish tail.
