[edit] What Route does 383 take between Scottsville Rd. and Brooks Ave.?

According to this article, and this map (PDF), Route 383 follows Scottsvilee Rd. to its northern terminus, turns east onto Elmwood Ave. for a fraction of a mile, then north on Plymouth Ave. Yahoo! maps and Google maps (and Google Earth) show 383 using Genesee St. instead of Plymouth between Elmwood and Brooks. No doubt this is because Plymouth south of Brooks is being removed to make way for Brooks Landing, but I'm surprised I haven't heard anything about re-routing 383 to accomodate the project. The route is signed as the map indicates: traveling Scottsville to Elmwood to Plymouth (including a very old "383" shield just north of the Elmwood/Plymouth intersection on Plymouth). Haven't heard anything about the Brooks Landing project, but that's probably just my inability to watch the Rochester news for longer than 10 minutes. =) Maybe Yahoo and Google are anticipating the change ahead of time. Also, I've always believed it followed the Scottsville-Elmwood-Plymouth routing.
...and then I look at the 2003 traffic report for Monroe County, found here (another PDF). From this, it could follow Genesee Street, although it is a bit vague in saying so. I dunno, but I've never seen a reference marker on Genesee Street myself. (Then again, NY 17M has no reference markers in Middletown...) --TMF T - C 21:29, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Well apparently Plymouth is discontinuous right now; just a big mound of dirt south of Brooks. I don't see how 383 could take that route anymore. =) Powers T 15:53, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Wow, shows how out of touch I am with my own city. =) I need to read up on this...maybe a Google search will help. In any case, since Plymouth is, for all purposes, gone south of Brooks, this should probably be noted in the history section regarding the future realignment (which appears to be Genesee Street). Since you know more about the future Brooks Landing than I do, Powers, I believe that you'd be best suited to write this note. --TMF T - C 16:51, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
I don't know much, and I have zero verifiable information on the route of 383. Powers T 19:26, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Here's an interesting piece from 2004 that detailed what work would occur on Plymouth: [1] Whether or not these plans stayed the same the past two years, I dunno. But in any case, according to this, Plymouth will remain open as a thru street via a parking lot. Not exactly state-road quality, if you ask me. =) Also, the NYS GIS maps are inconclusive, as the maps have a pair of NY 383 shields on Scottsville Road south of Elmwood and another on Plymouth north of Brooks, but nothing in between. Finally, a search on NYSDOT's site for both Brooks Landing and Route 383 came up empty. This is a good question that may only be answered with time. --TMF T - C 21:54, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Yesterday I drove south along 383 from downtown. Plymouth just curves right into Brooks now; an unfamiliar driver might not even notice the change. Zero indication of where 383 goes, as far as I can tell; if 383 has been rerouted, the new signs are definitely not up yet. If it hasn't been rerouted, then it's discontinuous right now. Powers T 13:15, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
Interesting. Maybe NYSDOT forgot about 383. =) Seriously, this is the kind of information that should be noted (the fact that Plymouth is no longer a thru street). As for the routing, I don't think we'd be speculating too much by saying that Genesee Street is the new routing of 383, since it begins where Scottsville Road ends and intersects Brooks Ave. --TMF T - C 18:03, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Looking at the 2005 NYSDOT traffic counts report, it looks like the segment length of NY 383 from the Rochester city line to the intersection of S. Plymouth Ave and Brooks Ave decreased by 0.2 miles compared to the 2003 report. The routing along Genesee St then right at Brooks Ave matches the new length perfectly. --Polaron | Talk 20:49, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
