[edit] Unique Features?

Might we want to mention here the unique features about the New York Ave station, like the glass walls/barriers around the escalators, instead of the usual thick concrete, as well as the white theme instead of the usual brown drab? It also has the only barbed wire I have seen in any metro station (on the white fences-also unique-that line the edges of the track), and a piece of the Metropolitan Branch Trail was constructed along with the station. Anything else? -Rmeskill 18:19, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Morgan Blvd. and Largo also have the white color scheme, as well as the escalator details. Also, what barbed wire? SchuminWeb (Talk) 00:22, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Although not visible in the picture (perhaps it was added later), there is a white fence about as high as a traincar and then barbed wire at a typical 45 degree outward-leaning angle. I'll try to remember to pay attention on the way home tonight, and it may only be on the side which butts up against the Metropolitan Branch Trail. -Rmeskill 13:26, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
I checked a number of other photos that I have of New York Avenue, and I saw no barbed wire on the trail side of the station. A white fence was erected (the photo in the article was taken a few days after the station opened), but I can't remember any barbed wire. The only barbed wire I found was along track 1, separating Metro's right of way from the other rail services using Union Station. That fence has been there since the 1970s, and similar fencing to separate the ROW can be found in a number of other places throughout the system. SchuminWeb (Talk) 22:03, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
I went by New York Avenue last time I was in DC, and what do you know - there is barbed wire as described. So my apologies there. I don't see it as too remarkable, though, since there's barbed wire in a number of other places along the boundary between Metro's right of way and the outside world.
