[edit] Census figure
I have deleted this statement from the article: "According to the 2001 census, New Lynn has a population of 6588."
The 2001 census population figures for the New Lynn North area unit were 6513 usually resident, 81 overseas, for a total of 6594. So the figure that was in the article seemed incorrect.
Also, I'm not that familiar with the boundaries of New Lynn, but this area unit does not include any of the Fruitvale and Rewarewa area units to the south (which have another 7,500 residents between them). The New Lynn North area unit also stretches west almost to the Kelston shopping area. So I imagine the population for that area unit might be misleading. Are there any locals out there with an opinion on this?
You can view the area unit boundaries here [1]. Search for New Lynn, Auckland, and add the Area Unit boundaries and names to the map. (You may need to zoom in.)
