News 60
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
News 60 is a recurring mock-news sketch on the fictional show-within-a-show Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, within the real-life US television series Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. It has its roots in the sketch Weekend Update from Saturday Night Live. It is currently anchored by Simon Stiles and Harriet Hayes, and has been described as the flagship sketch of the show.
[edit] Copyright infringement crisis
During the episode The West Coast Delay, a piece of material for Simon Stiles to read on News 60 turned out to be potentially stolen from a stand-up comedian's routine several years before. While it turned out to be owned by the show after all, that fact was not revealed until after they had cut into the west coast delay twice to apologize for the erroneous copyright infringement. A third cut-in was made to clear up the misunderstanding, much to the chagrin of all involved, especially Simon Stiles, who had to be the one to read the various statements on-air. While this must have been an embarrasment for the show and the network, no mention of it has been made since.
