Newport, County Tipperary

Newport is a town in County Tipperary, Ireland, approximately 8km from Birdhill. The Mulcair River flows through Newport, basically splitting the town into two. Newport is located amongst the Silvermines mountain range. Located in North Tipperary, it is under Tipperary North Riding County Council.
There are four educational establishments in the town, two primary schools - Convent of Mercy Primary School and the Boy's National School, and two second level schools - St Mary's Secondary School and St Joseph's College.
There is a post office there as well as a bank - Aillied Irish Bank with a sub office of Permanent TSB, together with the Mulcair Credit Union. Two ATMs are located in the town, one in Whelan's Gala Supermarket and the other in Ryan's Supermarket Bank of Ireland. The town contains 5 public houses and three general grocery shops
The town is rapidly expanding rapidly; with new housing estates being built each year, along with new planning permission for large housing estates been granted each year. There is also a talk of a new town centre being created a short distance outside the town.
The town has great traffic problems, and delays can be expected during rush hours. Under the proposed development of a new town centre a new ring road has also been included in the plans, which hopefully will ease traffic problems in the town.
Within 2 miles of the town there is the beauty spot of Clare Glens. A wooded area through which a river winds its way through. A great place for a walk, although be careful as the paths are dangerous.
Newport is about 4 miles from Murroe.
There are a number of clubs in the town:

- Newport GAA Club
The local soccer pitch is known as "The Freigh", and the hurling field is found to the south of the town.
