New Zealand general election, 1881

The New Zealand general election of 1881 was held December 9 to elect a total of 95 MPs to the 8th session of the New Zealand Parliament. A total number of 120,972 (66.5%) voters turned out to vote.
The Maori vote was held on December 8.
1879 was the year first general election held under universal male suffrage; all MPs elected in single-member electorates; introduction of 'country quota' allowing rural electorates to have 25% fewer voters than urban electorates; European and Māori seats' elections were held on single (but different) days.
