New York State Route 394 is a New York State Route located within Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties in New York. Its western terminus is located on the shore of Lake Erie, at an intersection with NY-5 in the hamlet of Barcelona, in the town of Westfield, in Chautauqua County. The eastern terminus is located at NY 17 and Interstate 86 at the hamlet of Steamburg, in the town of Coldspring, in Cattaraugus County.

I-86/NY-17 is intersected several times, and runs parallel to NY-394 for a long portion of its path between Chautauqua and Steamburg. NY-394 also runs along the westside of Chautauqua Lake and services Chautauqua Institution.

At its eastern end, NY 394 becomes New York State Route 951T, which is a state reference route that was originally part of NY 17 but is now a dead-end road.

[edit] History

Prior to the construction of the Southern Tier Expressway, the section of present-day NY-394 between Mayville and Jamestown was known as New York State Route 17J. The rest of the route was part of NY-17.
