New York State Route 38A is a north-south New York State Route located within Onondaga and Cayuga Counties in Central New York. Its northern terminus is located at an intersection with US 20 in downtown Auburn. The southern terminus is located at a junction with NY 38 in the village of Moravia, in southern Cayuga County.
NY 38A begins in Moravia, runs straight north into the southwestern corner of Onondaga County and NY 359, then quickly veers to the west and re-enters Cayuga County east of Owasco, a small hamlet in the southeastern corner of the Town of Owasco. The highway travels through Owasco, and then towards Auburn.

NY 38A runs briefly along the east shore of Owasco Lake. At the northern end of the lake, the roadway is next to the lake shore itself, offering a view down the length of the lake.
