[edit] Route description

Though route 33A does enter Genesee County, the vast majority of the route is located in Monroe County.

[edit] Genesee County

Route 33A begins at a three-way intersection with NY 33 in Bergen. From this point, Route 33 travels to the west and to the northeast while NY 33A heads east. Less than a quarter of a mile from its western terminus, Route 33A interchanges with Interstate 490 at exit 2, which is located on the Genesee-Monroe county line. While the expressway and the western on-ramps are located in Genesee County, the eastern ramps are situated in the Monroe County town of Churchville.

Route 33A passes into Monroe County immediately after passing over I-490 eastbound.

[edit] Monroe County

As Chili-Riga Center Road, route 33A traverses east across rural western Monroe County, intersecting NY 36 in Riga and forming an extremely short duplex with the route. NY 33A continues to the east, then to the northeast, turning in this direction to traverse Black Creek Park in West Chili. While on its northeast alignment, NY 33A crosses Black Creek and meets the southern terminus of NY 259 in West Chili. At this intersection, NY 33A becomes Chili Avenue, the name it retains into the city of Rochester.

Now in Chili, route 33A intersects NY 252, NY 386 and NY 252A in a 1.25 mile stretch that also features a duplex between 33A and 386 between the intersections of Scottsville-Chili Road (NY 386) and Paul Road (NY 252A), where NY 386 splits from the duplex and turns north toward Greece, leaving route 33A to continue east.

To the northeast of the 33A/386 split, NY 33A forms another duplex, this one with NY 204, which intersects 33A as the Airport Expressway. NY 204 then continues east onto NY 33A for 0.9 miles before turning due east onto Brooks Avenue and towards the Greater Rochester International Airport. Route 33A continues to the northeast, interchanging with Interstate 390 at exit 19 before crossing the Genesee River, the Rochester and Southern Railroad and the Rochester city line in one fell swoop.

Route 33A maintains its northeast alignment through Rochester until reaching its eastern terminus at route 33 near the Rochester neighborhood of Lincoln Park.
