[edit] History
NY 317's original alignment was once situated in Troy, from NY 40 to NY 142 in Brunswick.[1]
Until 2002, current NY 317 was composed of Onondaga County Route 105 between NY 5 in Elbridge and Valley Drive in Jordan and New York State Route 31C from Valley Drive north to NY 31. South of Jordan, NY 31C followed Valley Drive, which paralleled CR 105 to the west, south to Elbridge. Valley Drive and CR 105 were separated by Skaneateles Creek.
In 2002, flooding by the creek washed out a significant portion of Valley Drive, which ran close to the creek. Instead of attempting to repair the road, NYSDOT elected to swap ownership of Valley Drive with CR 105, upon which time CR 105, as well as Main Street, previously NY 31C, in Jordan, became NY 317.[2]
