New York State Route 312 is a short but important state highway located entirely within Putnam County. It allows access, albeit indirectly, to the village of Brewster from Interstate 84 via a less complicated exit than the nearby Interstate 684 exit, and is often heavily used for this purpose at rush hour by local residents.
Its western end is a junction with US 6 near the north end of Middle Branch Reservoir. From there it travels in a more northeasterly direction to its junction with I-84 to the hamlet of Dykemans, then heads west across some rural areas to its eastern end at NY 22 at Sears Corners.
