[edit] Route description

Between its western terminus and NY 383 (a distance of only 4.6 miles), NY 252 dons three different names: Beaver Road, Archer Road and Ballantyne Road. After crossing NY 383, NY 252 becomes Jefferson Road, the name it retains until the village of Pittsford, where it becomes West Jefferson Road.

NY 252 plays a major role in the consumer economy of Monroe County. Just east of NY 383 is the Rochester Institute of Technology, one of the two largest colleges in the area. From there east to South Winton Road in Henrietta, NY 252 is lined with plazas, stores and shopping centers. It is the major non-Interstate arterial leading traffic to and from Henrietta's commercial center near the intersection of NY 252 and NY 15, where Marketplace Mall and Southtown Plaza, the two largest shopping centers in the area, are located. Throughout this stretch, NY 252 holds four or more lanes of traffic and is unique in the fact that its junction with NY 15 is a grade-separated interchange (due to the heavy traffic volume of both roads).

East of Winton, NY 252 is reduced to two lanes and is highly residential. A notable location along this stretch is the Locust Hill Country Club, where the Wegmans LPGA tournament has been held every June since 1975. The road retains its residential complexion from Winton to its eastern terminus in the village of Pittsford.

[edit] History

NY 252's original alignment through Chili followed what is now NY 252A from NY 33A and NY 386 in Chili Center to NY 383, then duplexed with NY 383 south to Jefferson Road, where NY 252 continued east on its current alignment.
