New York State Route 171 is a short state highway in Central New York, running through the Frankfort Gorge to the village of Frankfort.
NY 171 begins at the termini of Herkimer County Routes 145 and 185, within the Frankfort Gorge. The route is narrow and winding, following the stream toward the village.
NY 171 is a two-lane highway its entire length. It is entirely located in Herkimer County.
It is the only signed state route in New York that does not intersect another signed state route. It did originally terminate at NY 5S when the latter was Main Street in Frankfort, until the arterial to Utica was built. Frankfort's interchange with NY 5S is at Cemetery Street, which is 0.75 miles to the west.
