New York Giants (soccer)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The New York Giants was a member of the American Soccer League. They were originally the Paterson Silk Sox but moved to New York after they were bought before the 1923/24 season. In 1928 the left to join the new Eastern Soccer League and returned after the merger of the ASL and ESL in 1929. They became the New York Soccer Club for the fall 1930 season. After the fall 1930 season, the club merged with the Fall River Marksmen and were renamed the New York Yankees for the spring 1931 season. Because the Marksmen had started the U.S. Open Cup the merged Yankees won the cup under the Marksmen's name even though they played with the new played and in the Yankees' uniforms. Before the fall 1931 season, the club absorbed the Fall River F.C. and moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts to become the new New Bedford Whalers.

They won the New York State Challenge Cup in 1929.
