Established in 1859, the first secretary of the club was Richard Driver. It was established to respond to a challenge to an Intercolonial match put out by the Melbourne Cricket Club with a prize of 500 pounds. The NSWCA team won that match.
Today, the New South Wales Blues are part of the Association. They compete in the Pura Cup, the Australian first-class competition formerly known as the Sheffield Shield, and the ING Cup, the Australian one-day competition.
