Supposedly, the land the high school is built upon was purchased from the Ku Klux Klan. This legend is used to explain the use of the New Palestine mascot - a dragon.

Graduates of New Palestine High School tend to pronounce the third syllable of the word "Palestine" with a long 'e' sound. This is contrary to the common English pronunciation of the Middle Eastern area.

New Palestine High School is part of the Hoosier Heritage Conference and offers soccer, tennis, cross country, football, golf, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, swimming, wrestling, baseball, softball, and track and field.
The New Palestine High School baseball team were the 2003 3A state runner-ups and the 2004 3A state champions. The 2004 softball team was the 3A state champions.

Todd Yoder a tight end for the Washington Redskins and played at Vanderbilt University on the college level. He won a Super Bowl ring as a member of the 2003 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
