New Museum of Contemporary Art

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The New Museum of Contemporary Art is a museum in New York City, USA, focusing entirely on contemporary art. In addition to its revolving exhibits, the museum includes the "Media Lounge" which is a unique space dedicated to the exhibition of digital art. The New Museum was founded by curator Marcia Tucker in 1977.

The museum is currently undergoing construction of its new home on the Bowery in New York City, and is presently using temporary exhibition space in the neighborhood of Chelsea. The Tokyo-based firm SANAA, collaborating with the New York-based company Gensler, is designing the project. Completion is expected by summer 2007, and the opening to the public is expected in November of that year.
