New Jersey Department of the Treasury

The New Jersey Department of the Treasury is responsible for administering taxation, government pensions, business formation and operation, and the State Budget, in the U.S. State of New Jersey. The department plays a leading role in the daily management of New Jersey State government. The department consists of approximately 4,000 employees who work in the eleven divisions and offices of the Department of the Treasury to perform three major functions: Revenue collection and generation, assets management and statewide support services.
New Jersey's State Treasurer is Bradley Abelow, who was appointed by Governor of New Jersey Jon Corzine and took office on January 23, 2006.
The Office of the State Treasurer is one of the oldest units of New Jersey State government, with its first Treasurer named in 1776, following adoption of the first New Jersey State Constitution. Over the years, the responsibilities of the office have grown tremendously in order to meet the demands of a growing public.
