New Hope-Lambertville Bridge
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The New Hope-Lambertville Bridge officially called the New Hope-Lambertville Toll Supported Bridge, a name virtually unknown to the residents of the communities, is a six-span, 1,053 foot-long bridge from Lambertville, New Jersey to New Hope, Pennsylvania. The bridge was reconstructed in 1904. It is of steel truss construction with an open grate roadway.
For many years it carried U.S. Route 202 over the Delaware River until it was superseded in 1971 by the toll bridge and realignment of U.S. Route 202 at Magill's Hill between the Rabbit Run Canal bridge and the Phillip's Mill community on the Pennsylvania side.
The original wooden covered bridge bridge was built in 1814. The flood of 1841 carried away three spans which were replaced. The flood of 1903 also carried away spans. This time they were replaced by the steel truss spans that are there today.
