New Hinksey

New Hinksey is a suburb in the south of the city of Oxford in the the civil parish of South Hinksey in the English county of Oxfordshire (though formerly part of Berkshire).

The suburb is located to the west of the Abingdon Road (A4144), surrounding grid reference SP516045. To the north is Grandpont and to the east, over Donnington Bridge, which crosses the River Thames, is Cowley. To the west is the railway line between Oxford and Didcot and beyond that Hinksey Stream, a branch of the River Thames. New Hinksey's name derives from the original villages of North Hinksey and South Hinksey to the west.

There is a large and popular outdoor public swimming pool in Hinksey Park, between New Hinksey and Grandpont.

The primary school, New Hinksey Church of England Primary School on Vicarage Road, is beside the parish church and has a good reputation locally.

The parish church is the Church of St John the Evangelist, at the Hinksey Park end of Vicarage Road. It was built in 1900 and designed by the famous church architect Sir John Ninian Comper (1864-1960). The church Sunday School meets most Sundays in the Sacristy at St John's, following the first hymn of the main parish mass. The church is friendly and the main parish mass is at 9.30 am, with coffee and tea being served after the service. The parish priest is Fr. James Wilkinson.
