New Hampton School

New Hampton School is a private college preparatory boarding school located in central New Hampshire, with 325 students, 190 of them boys, 135 girls. 225 students board on campus, 100 commute on a daily basis.

New Hampton Schools' (known as NHS by its students) modern curriculum is based upon the model of Total Human Development (THD) created by former headmaster Dr. Jeff Beedy. THD encourages holisitc and comprehensive growth for students, this is achieved through numerous unorthodox approaches to education. Among them, the required Saturday community service during the spring and fall terms, and the Senior Leadership Project.

NHS is a deviation from the stereotype of the traditional New England Prep school. NHS does not require a uniform, and unlike most of its competitor schools, has a strong academic support program available to students with learning disablities. It has been observed that these students often become the leaders and top scholars of their class.

NHS has a very strong football program, which took the New England Prep Championship in 2005. Both men's and women's basketball teams compete for trophies in their respective divisions each year. The men's basketball team produced Rashad McCants and and Wes Miller, both high profile players for the Tar Heels The baseball, hockey and lacrosse teams are also competitive. NHS has a cutting edge skiing and snowboarding team, with the ski team boasting prominent racers in the United states Ski and Snowboard Association and FIS divisions. NHS has placed ski racers on top noch teams such as UVM (Craig Leaman) and UNH (Alex Ray, Ashley Ladd). The snowboard team excels in both freestyle and boardercross, with riders taking top hornors in the NEPSACboth.

NHS has started a restructuring of their arts program, and their award winning film department. Recently, NHS brought the popular musical Godspell to their stage, selling out all performances. The music department encourages musicians of all levels, from beginner to maestro. NHS's music classes are known for being able to teach how to play an instrument, rather than requiring a student to already play to participate in the class, as is the case with most schools. The guitar program is renowned for its success, thanks to the 2 principal instructors, David Gagne and Jeremy Mathison.
