New Dragon Gate Inn (TC: 新龍門客棧, SC: 新龙门客栈, pinyin: xīn lóng mén kè zhàn), is a 1992 film directed by Raymond Lee, starring Tong Leung, Brigitte Lin, Maggie Cheung, Yuen Cheung-Yan, Donnie Yen, Xiong Xin Xin, Yan Yee Kwan and Lawrence Ng.

The movie, starring famous Chinese beauty Brigitte Lin, was the first in the line of a series of re-makes of the original 1966 Dragon Gate Inn. The New Dragon Inn is shot in standard wuxia fashion, a fast-paced supernatural action-thriller with Imperial China as a setting.

Hailed as a movie greater than Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon by Chinese audiences, the movie is considered a staple classic.

[edit] Synopsis

Civil War has broken out with the capture of a famous General, loyal to the Emperor. The General is beheaded at the hands of the Emperor's enemy, East Chamber. Three travelers are followed as they attempt to free the two surviving children of the General, who have also been captured for ransom and propaganda. As the heroes attempt to escape across a border from an encroaching army, they are forced to assume fake identities while being pursued into a dusty Inn, operated by misfits and a madame with secrets of her own. Outnumbered by a mercendary army and trapped in the border inn by a terrible storm, the heroes attempt to find a secret way of escape before its too late. Kungfu action, clever comedy, and drama ensues.
