New Bedford Whalers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The original New Bedford Whalers was originally a long-time amateur American soccer club based in New Bedford, Massachusetts who had been a two-time champion of the Southern New England Soccer League.

They joined the professional American Soccer League in 1924. In the summer of 1926, the Whalers, the Boston Wonder Workers and the Brooklyn Wanderers formed the one-off International Soccer League along with four top Canadian clubs. The club later left in the second half of the 1928/29 season to form the Eastern Soccer League. Soon after the merger of the two leagues, the Whalers were absorbed by the Fall River Marksmen.

The club won the Lewis Cup in 1926.
