New Albany, Ohio

Founded in 1837, New Albany is a village in Franklin County in the U.S. state of Ohio, just northeast of state capital Columbus. The population was 3,711 at the 2000 census. However, New Albany is developing rather quickly; according to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2005 population estimates the village is now home to 5,827 residents. It is poised to become one of the most affluent communities of Ohio, and certainly within the Columbus area. The New Albany Country Club constitutes a significant portion of the village, and the golf course has 27 holes.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 3,711 people, 1,263 households, and 1,030 families residing in the village. The population density was 160.5/km² (415.7/mi²). There were 1,424 housing units at an average density of 61.6/km² (159.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 94.18% White, 1.56% African American, 0.32% Native American, 2.75% Asian, 0.35% from other races, and 0.84% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.81% of the population.
There were 1,263 households out of which 46.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.1% were married couples living together, 4.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.4% were non-families. 15.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.94 and the average family size was 3.30.
In the village the population was spread out with 33.1% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 26.6% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 98.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.1 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $102,180, and the median income for a family was $119,171. Males had a median income of $100,000 versus $36,563 for females. The per capita income for the village was $62,131. About 1.2% of families and 1.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 0.5% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
The village is divided into many subdivisions such as: Hampsted Village, Hampsted Heath, Brandon, Upper Brandon, Lampon Park, Tensweep, Clivdon, Edge of Woods, The Farms, Fenway, North Of Woods, Cresent, Alban Mews, Albany Park, Albany Links, and Lansdowne. The Market Square attracts many businesses such as: Starbucks, New Albany Realty, Chocolate Octopus Candy Co., Rusty Bucket Bar and Pub, New Albany Public Library and Richard Lewis Travel. Other notable companies include New Albany Title Agency, LLC. The village is also home to the headquarters of Abercrombie & Fitch and Tween Brands, Inc..
The Mayor of New Albany is Nancy Ferguson, who was elected in 2003.
