[edit] Could you be more descriptive regarding Image:Glynn.jpg?
Welcome to Wikipedia, NeverLand. I noticed that you were the uploader for Image:Glynn.jpg. Could you please tell us what movie this came from? The reason I ask is because the description on the image's description page was very vague. Thanks! -- Joe Beaudoin Jr. Think out loud 00:07, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
- This also goes for your other images as well. Particularly Image:RobertaVasquez.jpg. -- Joe Beaudoin Jr. Think out loud 00:13, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image Tagging Image:Pleahy.jpeg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Pleahy.jpeg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Fair use
The image you recently uploaded, Image:ATitmus.jpg, was added to the Abi Titmuss article without a fair-use justification. As such, it has temporarily been removed. --Yamla 16:13, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
- You seem to be having problems understanding fair use. Do you have any questions I could help you with? If so, please ask. If not, please refrain from uploading any more pictures until you have read and understood your requirements for fair use. --Yamla 16:21, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

- Yes, I do have questions about fair use that you could hopefully help me with. It is obvious that you have painstakingly scrolled through my history and deleted a goodly portion of the images I have contributed. I fail to understand why you deemed some "fair use", yet wiped out others that had the same fair use justification. The wiki link you so helpfully provided stated that screenshots of television and movies are a "blanket category" that falls under fair use. Pretty much all the uploaded images were screenshots, and were clearly labeled as such. How are you determining that some of my screenshots are fair use while others are not. Unless I'm missing some of your thought process, your editing style seems rather arbitrary and sporadic.

- Thanks for getting back to me, NeverLand. The problem with fair use is that the justification must be made every time you use the image. On Abi Titmuss, for example, you did not identify where the image came from. You would have to identify the where the image came from on the Abi Titmuss page itself. Additionally, you'd need to be making critical commentary in the article itself. It is not sufficient to use an image from a t.v. show just as an image of that person. If you'd like, I can give you some examples which may help. --Yamla 18:15, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

- So it is sufficient to state from which movie the screenshot was captured, and make some sort of critical comment pertaining to the movie and the actor/actresses performance in the movie? Rolling with your Abi Titmuss example, to meet the criteria of your interpretation, it would need to: 1) Identify which movie the screenshot was taken from on the article page, 2) make some critical comment on the main article page, and 3) identify which movie the screenshot was taken from on the image page?

- I have no idea where the Abi Titmuss image was taken from, but let us pretend for a moment that it was taken from her sex video and that it showed her french-kissing her female partner. Furthermore, let us assume that this (the lesbian encounter) caused a scandal. I'm not up on British tabloids but I don't believe that actually was the case, but just follow along for a moment. It would then be reasonable to include the image, stating that it came from her sex tape and that it shows the lesbian encounter. So long as the article itself also includes critical mention of the lesbian encounter (I'm thinking something along the lines of, "Titmuss's video provoked a scandal due to the lesbian encounter (insert citation here)"), the image would clearly be fair use. Another good example is on the Ashlee Simpson page. Here, about a quarter of the way down, there's an image of a blonde Simpson. The image notes that it came from the Ashlee Simpson show and justifies the fair use by noting that she used to be blonde. This is a good example of fair use. Obviously, the Wikipedia uses a lot of images where the fair-use justification is much more dubious. As a rule, though, you should try to aim for this sort of level of fair-use justification for every such screenshot you use. Now, if you just want an image to identify the person, what you need to find is an image not protected by copyright. Or an image released for promotional use. Many actors have promotional headshots, for example, and using these would be perfectly acceptable. Fair use is, frankly, a pain in the behind. I hope, though, that these examples have helped a little. --Yamla 18:51, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:MelB.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:MelB.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ➨ ЯEDVERS 14:30, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
