The Netherlands chose their song for the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest on Sunday, 13 February at the Pepsi Center in Amsterdam. Twenty-four songs participated in the four televised semi finals. From each heat, three songs won places in the final. The heats were broadcast by TROS and there was no 'second chance' round. In the Dutch Nationaal Songfestival 2005 the televoters gave 50% of the points and the other 50% was divided over all the different jury groups: each of the three jury members gave points from 1 to 12 representing 10% of the total vote each (together 30%), a jury of international conservatory students gave points from 1 to 12 representing 10% of the total vote and finally a jury of Radio 2 listeners also gave away 1 to 12 points representing 10% of the total votes. The winner turned out to be a Whitney Houston influenced singer Glennis Grace. The song is written by Bruce Smith and composed by Robert D. Fisher.

Glennis Grace has become known as 'Amazing Grace' in the press when triumphed in the Dutch finals of the National Song Contest 2005 scoring an unanimous 12 points from all jury members and the televoting audience. Coming from Amsterdam Glennis was always musically inclined because of her family. She performed with Audrey Hepburn when she was 12 at a UNICEF gala and at 13 she was invited by the Spanish singer Julio Iglesias, to join him in a duet, during his concert tour in the Netherlands. At 15 years old she won a talent competition and recorded her first record. In 2003, her album 'Secrets Of My Soul' was released but she wasn't successful in other European markets and eventually lost her recording contract. Eurovision is her impossible dream and a chance to prove herself.
