NERF N-Strike

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NERF N-Strike is a line of blasters from NERF, a subcompany of Hasbro, Inc. In the N-Strike Universe, N-Strike personnel protect the 5 Sectors of the Solar System from things such as garden-variety criminals, to big-time villains such as Kree Dalenn, and the like. They accomplish this using a series of hi-tech blasters that are listed below. The N-Strike Code of Conduct is: Enlist, Engage, Enforce. The physical N-Strike can be found in any toy store for around $39.99.

[edit] The Blasters

The weapons that are currently available in stores everywhere, from weakest to strongest. In the DVD Game, they fire laser bolts.

[edit] Secret Strike AS-1

Cost: $2.99

Range: 30 ft.

Ammo Capacity: 1 (an extra Micro Dart is included)

Useable with DVD Game.

The S.S. AS-1 is the smallest blaster in the N-Strike line of products - it is designed to fit in a pocket and even features a keyring. Though it holds only one dart and does not pack much of a punch, it more than makes up for it with its surprisingly long range. The Secret Strike uses an air pressure pump system. Due to its small size, the weapon can easily be concealed, making for some spectacular sneak attacks on unsuspecting opponents. The weapon comes with a small cardboard target and an extra dart.

[edit] Scout IX-3

Range: Variable, from 10-25 ft.

Ammo Capacity: 3 (1 in firing chamber, 2 in ammo holders)

Useable with DVD Game.

Issued to the Rookie in the DVD Game.

Part of the Unity Power System.

The Scout is the standard-issue sidearm of N-Strike personnel. It has a slightly slower reload because of the time it takes to insert a new Dart and cock the pistol. The weapon is best suited for stealthily taking out single targets. Its impeccable accuracy allows for 1 in. diameter hit variability in close range (10 ft.). Although it is not as useful against a swarm of enemies, it is quite a reliable sidearm favored for back up. A blaster that looks like the Scout is available with the new NERF Tech Target Game.

[edit] Nite Finder EX-3

Cost: $5.99

Range: Variable, from 10-20 ft.

Ammo Capacity: 3 (1 in firing chamber, 2 in ammo holders)

Useable with DVD Game.

Comes with a Target and Target Stand.

Attachable to the Unity Power System.

Essentially an improved version of the Scout, the Nite Finder is considered by hardcore Nerfers to be the best single-handed blaster. As its name suggests, this blaster allows you to pinpoint targets in the dark with the built-in (and adjustable) laser sight, which is powered by 2 "AA" batteries and is activated by pulling the trigger halfway. In reality, the sight is not a true laser but a weak flashlight, and Modders have been known to remove this component to lessen the weight of the blaster. The toy's simple construction and low price makes it perfect for modification.

[edit] Maverick REV-6

Cost: $9.99

Range: > 30 ft.

Ammo Capacity: 6

Useable with DVD Game.

Attachable to the Unity Power System.

NOTE: In the "Advanced R&D" Section of the DVD Game, the Maverick is listed as the Prototype IX-6.

The Maverick is easily the most popular and recognizable of the N-strike series. With twice the holding capacity of the Scout, and a distinctive design similar to a revolver, the Maverick REV-6 can fire six shots before reloading. In skilled hands, the Maverick can shower opponents in a hail of Micro Darts, though it is prone to jamming at high rates of fire. The Maverick also resembles a Desert Eagle even though it is a revolver. The integrated sight is perfect for precise blasting. The Maverick was featured in a Penny Arcade comic.

Though the internal components are somewhat complicated, the body of the gun is very easy to modify because of its direct, screw-on construction. Common modifications include cutting off some of the plastic stoppers to allow the revolver barrel to come out further (for easier loading and Russian-Roulette action), removal of the air inhibitors for greater range and accuracy, and painting it to look more like a real gun.

[edit] Firefly REV-8

Cost: $24.99

Range: > 30 ft.

Ammo Capacity: 8 (If you buy the Value Pack, you get another 8 Glow Darts)

Useable with DVD Game.

The Firefly REV-8 is larger and more powerful than the Maverick. The "Firefly" seems to be the standard "rifle" of N-Strike. Despite its large size, the Firefly has a small strobe light (activated by flipping a switch), which is powered by 2 "AA" batteries and can be used by pulling the trigger. The Firefly's bullpup ergonomics somewhat resemble a P90 submachine gun, but in use the weapon behaves more like a rifle. The strobe essentially makes the Glow Darts (which are actually Micro Darts with glow-in-the-dark stickers on them) glow in the dark. The weapon can carry eight darts in the revolving chamber and eight extra darts through slots, making it the first Nerf Gun to actually have an effective "reloading" system. The flash makes the gun look like a true weapon, which combined with the special luminescent darts makes for an interesting 'hot lead' effect. Contrary to its advertisement, the Firefly REV-8 has good range and a weak flash of light comparable to a toy camera.

[edit] Hornet AS-6

Range: Variable, from 5-30 ft.

Ammo Capacity: 6

Useable with DVD Game.

Issued to the Rookie in the DVD Game.

Part of the Unity Power System.

The Hornet AS-6 is a six-shot pump blaster included in the N-Strike System. The weapon is unique in the fact that it can be fired in two ways - moderately accurate single shots, or in a shotgun-like burst. The weapon also features an ammo counter near the Unity System rail. A good strategy for the DVD Game: In Mission 3, when Lt. Cole says, "Blast Mode, now!" (i.e. the orange circles on either side of the blaster), it is best to hold the gun horizontially before you press the button. The button on the front holder of the Unity Power System fires this blast function of the Hornet AS-6 as well. Although this can be quite powerful, a miss with the Blast Mode means you'll have to go through the long reload process, which can be time-consuming. Thus, the weapon is most suited to single targets once other weapons are depleted. The Hornet is more suited to indoor play, where the spray of darts makes it an ideal secondary weapon. The blaster's most significant flaw is a relatively long reload time.

[edit] Longshot CS-6

Cost: $29.99

Range: 35 ft.

Ammo Capacity (Main Rifle): 6 Shot Magazine x2

Ammo Capacity (Attached Pistol): 1 round can be front loaded into the lower muzzle

Attachable to the Unity Power System.

Comes with a bipod, collaspible stock, and detachable scope (compatible with most N-Strike weapons).

The Longshot CS-6 is a combination weapon like the Unity Power System, consisting of a semi-automatic rifle with a smaller blaster that can be attached to the front of the rifle. Both guns use a single-cock spring system. The rifle uses redesigned microdarts that eliminate the 'lip' where the tip is attached to the dart. Ammunition for the rifle feeds from a 6 shot magazine, and the blaster features storage for a second magazine in the stock. It also includes a detachable scope that can be mounted on any N-Strike blaster featuring a mounting rail for the Unity Power System.

[edit] Titan AS-V.1

Range: < 60 ft; advertised as 60 ft.

Ammo Capacity: 1 Mega Missile

Part of the Unity Power System.

The Titan AS-V.1 is a pump rocket launcher included in the N-Strike System which uses a two-foot-long, sponge-tipped missile projectile as ammunition. While the blaster is an impressive toy, the missile is large and powerful enough to be considered dangerous, and the weapon's recoil is sufficient to fling the weapon from the arms of an unsuspecting child. The weapon takes a very long time to charge, which entails stepping on the butt and pumping the entire weapon by the handles. This property, combined with the solitary, slow-moving projectile, makes it next to useless in a formal Nerfer combat situation. The bottom of the enormous trigger housing is a Unity System rail. In the DVD game, the Titan is basically an anti-tank missile launcher, hence the "V.1" in the name. Lt. Cole uses the Titan to destroy Kree Dalenn when he escapes from N-S Central Command in an NS-Striker 50. It is not recommended to use the Titan AS-V.1 while playing the DVD Game, as the toy's power can easily knock over or even punch a hole in the television.

[edit] The DVD Game

At a mining facility in Sector 3, a battle is being fought between Sgt. Brown and his crew, and Kree Dalenn's robo-minions. Then Lt. Larson and Lt. Cole from N-Strike even the odds. But then a holo-image of Kree Dalenn distracts Cole, and he unintentionally leaves his companions to be destroyed by an explosion.

Back at HQ, Cole is introduced to his new partner, The Rookie (The Player). Cole then puts the Rookie through a series of training missions. But before all the training missions were completed, Col. Eddins alerts Cole that Kree Dalenn is attacking the Fairlight IV mining colony, which is a Tachyon Wave Relay Station. It is revealed that Kree Dalenn built it himself and that he was once an elite N-Strike member; this is what makes him so dangerous. Cole and Rookie rush to the facility using an NS-Striker 50. Then the group fights through the facility and reeactivates the Relay Station. Kree, however, then escapes with fuel and experimental alloys.

Four solar weeks later, Kree then moves his ships to a construction facility on Rhea, one of the moons of Saturn. Cole and his partner travel to and fight through the facility, blowing up all robots in their path. When they finish, however, Kree escapes with Cole's NS-Striker 50, the SF-047Z Transports (the supply ships), and the docking codes.

When the soldiers return to HQ, using a BS2 Shuttle, the now bad-guy controlled space station attempts to blow up the ship, which the soldiers create their own entrance with by busting through the station's hull, albeit injuring Cole in the process. Kree then plans to use the HQ's Terra-I Laser Cannon to destroy Earth. The soldiers do prevent him from using it, for the Rookie shot Kree in his 3 Jump Jet Exhaust Ports using the Scout. However, Kree's head changes into a robot itself and attempts to escape using another NS-Striker. But Cole uses the Titan to finish him off once and for all.

When the game is over, Cole is promoted to Captain, while Rookie is promoted to 1st Lieutenant.
