Neptune Theatre (Halifax)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Neptune Theatre is the largest professional theatre company in Atlantic Canada and is located in downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It performs a mixture of new and classical plays.

The Neptune was originally constructed during Canada's drive to create regional theatres on the site of a former cinema in 1963. It was renovated in 1997 and now has two theatres and incorporates a theatre school.

It is named after Le Theatre de Neptune en la Nouvelle France, the first European play performed in Canada, by Marc Lescarbot in 1606.
