Neopets Faeries

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Neopets Faeries, based on mythological fairies, are mysterious creatures on the Neopets website. There are six main types and many unique faeries. Most of the all-female faerie race lives in the Neopian world of Faerieland, with exceptions such as the Negg Faerie and Taelia the Snow Faerie on Terror Mountain, Illusen the Earth Faerie in Meridell, Jhuidah of Mystery Island, and the Soup Faerie in Neopia Central.

[edit] Bottled Faeries

Bottled faeries can be bought and sold for roughly 6000 neopoints. A player releases the faerie by activating the item. The faerie will then either bless the player's Neopet with a Battledome ability or fly away depending on the pet's battledome level. There are 8 Fire and Earth Faerie abilities, and 7 each of the other types. Each ability can be leveled up by landing on the correct slot in The Wheel of Excitement, though they don't often work any more effectively (the ability levels are thought to be an idea long abandoned by Neopets). Images of a bottled Grey Farie have been found but have yet to be used in anyway. Bottled Faeries are bottled by Balthazar the Lupe, who had a bad experience with some Dark Faeries and swore revenge on all faeries, so he became a Faerie Hunter. A minor reference to Bottled Faeries is present in Neopets: The Darkest Faerie, where The Darkest Faerie captures Queen Fyora in a bottle.

[edit] Protectors of Altador

[edit] The Darkest Faerie

The Sleeper.

The Darkest Faerie, also known as "the Dark One" and "The Betrayer", makes Jhudora's powers look amateurish. She is the darkest of all the faeries and was once a protector of Altador before she betrayed the other protectors. She was banished from Altador only to return stronger and more evil than before. She then forced one of the protectors, Jerdana, to cause Altador to fall into a time bubble, which completely removed Altador from the surface of Neopia and suspended it in time for 1000 years. She caused purple clouds to appear over the many lands of Neopia and rigged these clouds to local monsters. These caused the citizens to become her hypnotized minions, or 'tainted'. She also created minions to attack anyone resisting her control and had planned to use Faerieland to crush Meridell when it passed over. When she was banished, she attempted to dominate Faerieland but the Faerie Queen resisted her. Even so, she could not defeat the Darkest Faerie alone. Her plan almost worked, but with the aid of Jerdana's Orb she was turned back to stone and Fyora stopped the falling Faerieland. Her only appearance for now is in the PlayStation 2 video game Neopets: The Darkest Faerie.

Her current location is atop the fountain in Faerieland, being observed by Fyora. There is also another statue that currently resides in the Hall of Heroes, a memorial to her days as a protector of Altador, which has been theorized to actually be the Darkest Faerie. Many Neopians have seen the statue changing. A statue of the original plan for the Darkest Faerie is located in the Maraquan Ruins. The outfit is different because Neopets planned to release a DF PS1 game a few years before the PS2 game went on sale. She was planned to look like that in the PS1 game. She is in the ruins because that is where she was imprisoned for 1,000 years.

The recent Altador plot has revealed a story concerning the Darkest Faerie before she betrayed the city's other eleven protectors. The tale concerns a hunter named Altador (King Altador before he became king) who journeyed to slay the beast that was plaguing a peaceful farmland. He slew the beast with an arrow, but as his foe slumped to the ground, another of the beast's kind snuck up behind him. Altador would have not survived if a Dark Faerie hadn't killed the other beast with a blast of purple magic. He and the Dark Faerie carried the heads of the slain monsters back to the village, and Altador, realizing the unique ally he had acquired, asked the Dark Faerie to join him and his companions in founding a great city. The Darkest Faerie helped to build the city (named Altador) and served the council well, but she ultimately broke King Altador's heart, as the two of them were friends until she betrayed the council. It is said that the reason she betrayed Altador is that King Altador began to appreciate her less and less after the kingdom was built, since she was a Dark Faerie.

[edit] Siyana

The First To Rise.

Siyana is a Light Faerie who originally came from Altador. She helped the other 10 protectors stop the Darkest Faerie from controlling the city. Her current location is unknown. She appears in Neopets: The Darkest Faerie.

The recent Altador plot has revealed a story concerning Siyana before she became a protector of Altador. The tale reveals that during Siyana's travels, she stopped at a small farming village. (It is unknown if this village is identical to the one King Altador originated in.) Its inhabitants were kind and gracious Neopets, so she stayed in the village for several weeks to help their crops stop frosting over in the chilly nights. One evening, after her crop-checking duties were finished, Siyana noticed a dark form moving in the woods, and immediately became suspicious. She grabbed a thick blanket to hide her light and quietly followed the stranger deep into the woods, where he joined a group of thieves around a campfire. Siyana flew up and eavesdropped on their conversation from a high branch. The stranger turned out to be a scout who the leader was congratulating, saying that the village would soon be theirs. Siyana, alarmed, tossed the blanket aside and ran as quickly as she could. One of the thieves spotted her and fired an arrow, puncturing her left wing and making her unable to fly. Despite her disability, Siyana ran as fast as she could, with the bandits right on her heels. When she reached the village, Siyana realized she was out of breath from running and thus could not wake the villagers. Instead, she used a large amount of her light faerie powers to make herself glow as brightly as possible. The villagers, thinking the sun had risen, came outside and saw the thieves approaching. Thanks to Siyana, the villagers were able to arm themselves and chase the bandits away for good. Soon after, one of the farmers, a Kacheek named Florin (who would also end up a protector of Altador) told Siyana that she might want to meet a noble Lupe he had heard of. When she and King Altador met, Siyana agreed to become one of the protectors of Altador. An item by the name of the Siyana Plushie is available for Neopians in her honor.

[edit] Psellia

Psellia is a famous air faerie who first appeared during the Battle for Meridell. When Jeran, the commander of Meridell's knights, fell off of Darigan Citadel, Psellia rescued him and brought him down to Meridell Castle safely. Psellia lives mostly up in the clouds and watches the Neopians. She is known to own Harrises, petpets that resemble tan koalas, that bring messages down to Neopia for her. She is also named as one of the 12 guardians of Altador in Neopets: The Darkest Faerie.

The recent Altador plot has revealed a story concerning Psellia before she became a guardian of Altador. The tale relates that one day, long before Altador was founded, Psellia was resting on the clouds of Faerieland when she saw a Blumaroo bounce too close to the edge of a cloud and slip off. Psellia, knowing that the Neopet wouldn't survive the fall, flew down as fast as she could. When she reached the Blumaroo, Psellia, using the last of her strength, put on an enormous burst of speed and grabbed one of the Blumaroo's paws. Psellia slowed the air to soften their fall into the ocean. She then swam to a nearby shore and dragged the Blumaroo onto dry land, where they could both recover. The tale of Psellia's deed spread quickly, and soon King Altador asked her to join him in forming his kingdom.

[edit] Basic Faeries

There are five different types of basic faeries in Neopia, each drawing their power from a different elemental source.

[edit] Fire Faeries

Fire Faeries have a strong mischievous streak. They love to play pranks, especially during the Neopets Faerie Festival.

The quest-giving Fire Faerie will ask for clothing for her quests. In return, she will increase the player's pet's strength level. This is recommended if the item she asks for costs less than the price of a codestone. Fire Faerie abilities are as follows: Smoke Screen, Fiery Roar, Fiery Gaze, Fireball, War Cry, Lava Spit, Song of the Volcano, and Boil. Fire Faeries in Neopia include Fuhnah, Nuria, Eithne and Ember.

One famous fire faerie is called Eithne, who is evil. She was banished in the mystery island plot and has never been seen again.

[edit] Earth Faeries

Earth Faeries live in the tallest trees of the Neopian forests. They enjoy collecting and storing items and try to avoid creatures on the ground. They can toughen a creature's skin or give it the ability to magically create food or burrow into the ground.

The Uber Earth Faerie will ask for magical items for her quests. In return, she will heal and bloat the player's pet. This is often considered extortionate, as these things can be gained for free from elsewhere in Neopia. She cannot heal diseases, contrary to popular belief. A famous Earth Faerie is Illusen, who lives in Meridell and gives out timed quests to anyone who is willing. Her arch-nemesis is Jhudora. There is also Iyana, an earth faerie, who "lives in a forest, making her home high in the branches of the tallest tree." Ilere is an Earth faerie who lives in the Haunted Woods, and saved Sophie when the inhabitants of Neopia turned on her family.

Earth Faerie abilities are: Magic Pebbles, Tough Skin, Magic Berries, Burrow, Negg, Twisting Vines, Great Feast and Regeneration. It's worth noting that the Negg ability will create neggs for the duration of the battle only, and are only for use in the battle.

[edit] Water Faeries

Water Faeries are found in the rivers and streams of Neopia and have mermaid tails and fins. The Uber Water Faerie will ask for books for her quests. In return, she will increase the pet's defense level.

A famous Water Faerie in Neopia is Nereid, who runs the Healing Springs (a place where neopets go to heal themselves after something drastically bad happens) in Faerieland. Also, The Drenched are three evil Water Faeries who recently appeared in the "Curse of Maraqua Plot". Another famous Water Faerie is the Fountain Faerie, who runs the Rainbow Fountain.

Water Faerie abilities are: Heal, Bubble Shield, Water Jet, Quench, Steam Shield, Water Breathing and Water of Life.

[edit] Light Faeries

According to Neopian Legend, "Living on clouds on the upper levels of Neopia are the radiant Light Faeries. Devoted to the cause of good, they will rarely stray deep down to the lower levels. If a creature is noble and bold of heart, these magical sprites can grant him or her holy powers such as bless and restore".

The Uber Light Faerie will ask for collectible cards for her quests. In return, she will raise your pet a level. Unless you are trying to keep your pet at a lower level for cheaper training, this is recommended.

A famous Light Faerie in Neopia is Siyana, who lives in Altador (one of the names of the other side of Neopia, important figure in the Darkest Faerie Plot).

Light Faerie abilities are: Magic Torch, Flash, Bless, Sun Ray, Psychic Blast, Mote Dance and Restore.

[edit] Dark Faeries

Dark faeries are thought to be the Dark One's minions. They grant powers such as creating darkness, draining life, and night vision. The alignment of dark faeries has often been ambiguous, being alternatively described as fully evil and neutral. The Uber Dark Faerie will ask for toys for her quests. In return, she will raise your pet's health points.

Famous Dark Faeries in Neopia are Jhudora, who lives in Faerieland and gives out quests (like Illusen, see Earth Faeries), The Darkest Faerie (also known as the Betrayer, and Jennumara, although she and Jennumara are two separate Faeries), Mavara, Maelstra, and the Dark Faerie Sisters (Vanity, Malice, and Spite). Another Dark Faerie called Fiona tried to prevent Aethia from recovering the two swords belonging to the previous Battle Faerie, Valeane.

Dark Faerie abilities are: Night Vision, Nighttime, Temporal Leak, Shroud, Demon Breath, Shadow Health, Sink and Drain Life.

[edit] Other Faeries

As well as the normal Faeries there are some other unique Faeries living in Neopia.

[edit] Negg Faerie

The Negg Faerie lives in the Neggery in the Ice Caves. Here you can trade neggs and negg tokens for one another, and purchase some of the rarer neggs available. Because the player's money and negg tokens are the only limits to buying neggs, unwanted Neggery neggs will always be cheaper to buy from another player than to redeem from the Neggery.

[edit] Tooth Faerie

The Tooth Faerie often appears in random events to give money for "lost teeth". The player usually receives between 100 and 1000 neopoints, and possibly the chance to use the Tooth Faerie avatar.

[edit] Soup Faerie

The Soup Faerie, the Neopian faerie of Love and Kindness lives in the Neopia Central market place and runs the Soup Kitchen, where your neopets can be fed if you can't afford to buy food. Feeding your pet here will occasionally reward you with her avatar.

[edit] Battle Faerie

In olden times of war, this magical creature was said to help inexperienced pets learn to defend themselves and on rare occasions teach the strongest ones a lesson they would never forget. The current Battle Faerie is Aethia. Her predecessor was Valeane. Legend says whoever defeats her will be rewarded with one-of-a-kind items. She has been retired from the Battledome, and her weapons are available from the Battle Magic shop. She currently runs her own Faerie Weapons shop in Faerieland. A Battle Faerie avatar is sometimes made available to the player after completing a 1-player battle.

[edit] Grey Faerie

The Grey Faerie is a poor miserable creature that has lost her magical powers and can't even fly. So far she is the only one of her kind reported, although it has been hinted that whenever a faerie loses its wings, it turns into a grey faerie. The only way for a grey faerie to get her powers back is to get new wings and to do that she must get a new name.

Some say that Grey Faeries are citizens of Faerieland who have broken Fyora's law.

The only known grey faerie's name was Baelia. She was a prisoner of the dark faerie's on the top of a mountain, encased in a cage with a magical talking lock. In order to open the cage and free Baelia, the name of the lock had to be spoken. Tavi, a brave Kyrii mountain climber, figured out the name and set Baelia free.

In her original form, Baelia wore green clothing, had green eyes, and sported white feathered wings—a unique color scheme among the faeries.

[edit] Dung Faerie

The Dung Faerie will occasionally donate a pile of dung to the rubbish dump from http://www.pinkpt.com/neodex/index.php/Dung_Faerie. It is a secretive faerie uncommonly seen donating random things at the Meridell Rubbish Dump.

[edit] The Library Faerie

As well as running the Faerieland Bookshop, she runs the Daily Crossword. The faster you complete it, the more neopoints she'll reward you. If you get the crossword done, she gives you an avatar.

Crossword Prizes
Solve puzzle in less than 5 minutes 600 neopoints
Solve puzzle in less than 15 minutes 400 neopoints
Solve puzzle in more than 15 minutes 200 neopoints
Neopets Crossword Puzzle

[edit] Fountain Faerie

This Famous Water Faerie lives in Faerieland, where she operates the Rainbow Fountain. She gives Fountain Faerie Quests as random events (although they are quite rare), and after a player completes one of her quests, s/he may paint his/her active pet almost any color previously released to that pet species (exceptions being Royal, Baby, Robot and MSP). The Fountain Faerie asks for items with a rarity value of between 90 and 99, which are usually expensive. As the cheapest non-basic paintbrush costs around 100,000 neopoints, and the most expensive costs around 2.5 million, and she offers colours that are otherwise only available by using the secret laboratory ray, they are quite worth it. However, few "Neopians" have chanced upon one of her quests.

[edit] Jhuidah

Jhuidah runs the trading post and cooking pot in Mystery Island, and is described as an "Island Faerie." During the Mystery Island plot, she was shrunk and trapped in a fish bowl at the Mystery Island petpet shop. Players had to give her a Tagobo Potion to free her, and those that did received a now-retired avatar.

[edit] Ambition

Ambition is a Faerie in the mysterious group known as The Three. The Three were responsible for giving Kass the power to seize control of the Darigan Citadel and attack Meridell, causing the conflict known as the Battle for Meridell. Ambition's element is fairly ambiguous, which causes her to be alternatively viewed as either a Dark Faerie (because of her dark attire) or a fallen Light Faerie (because of her wings). While little is known for certain about The Three, Ambition appears to be their leader.

[edit] The Madness Faerie

A faerie mentioned in the Story Telling Contest, number 291. It is supposedly made up, still some question its existence. The story is located here.

[edit] Ilere

A Earth faerie featured in the Tale of Woe plot. She gave Sophie a home, and all she would need to survive in the haunted woods, including various magical items and ingredients. She lives in a closed off area of the Haunted Woods, guarded by ghost meepits. Not much else is known about her.

[edit] Faerie Quests

Fyora, the elemental faeries, the Space Faerie, and the Fountain Faerie give quests as random events. These quests involve finding an item without the aid of the Shop Wizard (the user shop search engine), thus limiting the ways to find the requested item. The auction house and trading post can be used to get around this, as can the Quest sub-board on the message boards, in which many users are willing to use the Shop Wizard in the quester's stead and retrieve the username of the shop with the cheapest price. A player can cancel any quest by clicking on the "I don't want to do this quest!" option given when retrieving the item. The rewards and requests vary depending on the faerie:

  • The Earth Faerie will ask for a magic item, fill your pets with food, and make them gain one pound in weight.
  • The Water Faerie will ask for a book and raise the defense of a random pet by 2 points.
  • The Fire Faerie increases a random pet's strength by 2 points in return for clothing.
  • The Air Faerie increases the speed of a random pet by 2 points in return for beauty products.
  • The Light Faerie will raise the level of a random pet by 1 in return for a trading card.
  • The Dark Faerie will give a random pet a 2 hit point increase if you bring her the toy she asks for.
  • The Space Faerie will ask for any random item and increase a pet's level by 4.
  • Fyora will ask for a rare (and usually expensive) item and will give a pet a raise in several battle areas, 1 level, 3 attack, and 3 hit points.

[edit] Fountain Faerie Quests

Arguably the most desirable is the Fountain Faerie quest. She will ask for any item with a rarity level of between 90 and 99 (they are usually expensive, though she has been known to ask for cheap items like icy snowballs and puntec fruits) and in return you will be able to access the Rainbow Fountain in Faerieland. You will have the option of using the fountain to paint one of your pets almost any colour you wish. Most rare colours (i.e. Malevolent Sentient Plushie) are not available as options, although Robot and the magical chia colours are present. If you use the Rainbow Fountain to paint a Buzz (a neopet that looks somewhat like a bee or a wasp), you will receive a secret avatar that you cannot get any other way.

[edit] Illusen and Jhudora

Illusen and Jhudora each offer a different type of quest. Their quests can be taken on demand (with a 12 hour wait in between each one) and they don't give rewards for every quest. A tally is kept of the number of quests completed in a row, and prizes are given at set intervals. Unlike the quests that are given out randomly, you may use the Shop Wizard to find the item, though you are also given a time limit of around 16 minutes and 40 seconds for each quest. The early rewards are poor and worth very little, but completing 35 quests or more in a row will earn you very rare and expensive items. It is almost always said that their quests are a waste of time and money and that when you acquire an expensive or rare item, it is usually not worth the trouble you have been through. There are only a very few number of people who have managed to complete all 50 quests of either Faerie. You also cannot do quests for both at any time, as the two hate each other and will know if you've been doing quests for the other; one way to switch to the other Faerie is to fail a quest for the one you're "working" for. Illusen and Jhudora are sisters, but they despise each other a great deal (many a Neopian Times story is careful to mention their staying as far away as possible.) Jhudora is also featured in the Gallery of Evil.
