[edit] Redirects

I created a short article on the movie Legend of the Eight Samurai moments ago. The original Japanese title of the film is Satomi Hakkenden. Is it possible for a search of Satomi Hakkenden to be linked to the same article, or do I have to create a new article for Satomi Hakkenden as well, even though it is the same film? (Nekohakase 22:56, 1 March 2006 (UTC))

You would have to make a redirect. Would you like me to take care of that for you? Krashlandon (e) 22:58, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Does this film have anything to do with Nanso Satomi Hakkenden? Krashlandon (e)

If I were you, I would just move your article to the Japanese name. That will create an auto redirect. --Krashlandon (e) 23:13, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

I will try that!! Thank you! (Nekohakase 23:17, 1 March 2006 (UTC))

PS - Nanso Satomi Hakkenden.... is that a movie? If so, perhaps there is a connection. According to the IMDB, though, the movie's name is Satomi Hakkenden... I haven't heard of the Nanso part. Perhaps that refers to another version of the story.

(Nekohakase 23:19, 1 March 2006 (UTC))

南総 (nansō) is in the book's title, but not the film's. See Kyokutei Bakin. Also, you'll want to read meta:Help:Moving a page, don't copy/paste content, as that loses the edit history. --zippedmartin 23:27, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Helpme

Hi, I created a page for Japanese playwright Noda Hideki. There also seems to be a race-car driver of the same name. How do I disambiguate that? Is there a special code to do so?

Thank you Nekohakase 19:39, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

You have two options (just ask me if you want help implementing the one you choose)
  1. Just place a note at the top of Noda hideki pointing to the motor racer, eg For the race car drvier, see Noda hideki (driver).
  2. Or move the playwright, Noda hideki, to Noda hideki (playright) and at Noda hideki make a disambiguation page leading to the the two different people.
Wikipedia:Disambiguation explains these options. You would do (1) if the playwright is the most popular, or (2) is they are of comparable popularity. Again, just ask me if you need a hand.--Commander Keane 19:48, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Barnstar

The Barnstar of High Culture
This barnstar is for your effort at creating an English language database of Japanese Film and Actors. Keep up the good work! (Arundhati Bakshi (talkcontribs)) 19:49, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] How to move a page

To move a page, please use the "move" tab at the top of the page. This preserves the edit history (the "history" tab).

Using copy and paste to perform the move breaks the GFDL copyright license that wikipedia operates under, and is not permitted. --Victim of signature fascism | Do people who don't think Jesus existed exist? 23:29, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

P.s. you won't be able to move articles to locations that already have articles at them. So you will have to wait for the article you created the copy at to be deleted before the article you were trying to move can be moved.

You're too slow ril (though you beat me to the db box) :D --zippedmartin 23:34, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

I have a number of pictures of various Japanese actors and actresses, most of them taken myself. :) But I am not sure of the way to upload pictures and put them on a page. What is the procedure and code for doing that?

Nekohakase 20:21, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure if you know about it or not, but Wikimedia Commons is a sister project of Wikipedia. You can upload photos there, which will benefit all Wikimedia projects. See [1] for more information. If the pictures are of famous actors and actresses, you can upload them on Commons, and license them under a free licnse. If the actors are non-famous, it would be better to ask them to say that they gave their consent to have the pictures taken. Ideally with an email to permissions@wikimedia.org. To upload on commons, just click on the "upload file" link to the left. --Shanel 20:40, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Extended image syntax has examples of how to put the images in articles. Say you uploaded an image called Test1.jpg to the Commons (or Wikipedia). You would go the the correct article and insert [[Image:Test1.jpg|thumb|right|200px|Hello, this is a caption!]]--Commander Keane 21:12, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
Wow, thanks! I learned something new today!(^o^)/ Nekohakase 21:17, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Shohei Imamura image

Hi, Nekohakase. That's a nice picture of Imamura, and I'm glad to see it in the article. Unfortunately someone has marked it as having no copyright licensing... I see you took it yourself. I don't know myself how to mark it properly, but I hope you can find out how, and remove the licensing request. Otherwise it will probably be deleted soon, and that would be a shame. -- Rizzleboffin 00:03, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm going to try uploading it again under a different name and licensing... there's a choice there of "self made" that I never noticed before! Thanks! Nekohakase 17:39, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Great, Nekohakase! That should do the job. I'm just about done creating stubs for all of Imamura's films, and hope to do some more work on the main article tonight. -- Rizzleboffin 21:28, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Userboxes!

Hi, I noticed that some people have little banners like "this person is of German Descent" or whatnot on their user pages. I think that is cool. How can I do that too? Nekohakase 20:36, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

  • sigh... do you *really* want to know? it's not as cool as it seems... -- Drini 20:42, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Really? I thought it was cool... does it carry any unwanted stigma or something? Nekohakase 20:45, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

I'll tell you how to do it if you point me a page that does it -- Drini 20:46, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Here is one! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Srose Nekohakase 20:53, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

See those uncool rectangles with colors? those are called userboxes. Here's how:
{{subst:userbox|red|blue|left|right}}
left right
change colors and text accordingly. now, some people will try to lure you into filling up your oage with thousands of userbxoxes, and using simpler versions like {{user foo}} please be strong and resist. All you need is the basic template I gave above (you can put pictures instead of text as well) -- Drini 21:03, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank you.... I will do some thinking on the subject. I see how it can get out of hand. Nekohakase 21:07, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] mistake

I'm trying to categorise some of the uncategorised pages. However, after finding a suitable category and interting the appropriate tags, the last two articles I saved did not categorised properly. What mistake did I make? The most recent article I tried to categorise was Ben Shedd. (Nekohakase 16:54, 19 September 2006 (UTC))

Checking.... - UtherSRG (talk) 17:08, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Looks fine to me. What do you think is wrong with it? - UtherSRG (talk) 17:09, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Really? I suppose it worked after all... Maybe something is wrong with my computer. I'm sorry to have troubled you. :) (Nekohakase 17:11, 19 September 2006 (UTC))

No trouble. :) - UtherSRG (talk) 17:12, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion

while trying to categorise the uncategorised stuff, i come across a lot of garbage. what is the tag to suggest an article for deletion? Is that just a job for administrators? (Nekohakase 17:49, 19 September 2006 (UTC))

No, it is job for every Wikipedian! You can find instructions about how to nominate a page for deletion at WP:AFD. If the page is truly garbage and you think that it's an uncontroversial deletion, you can do a proposed deletion instead. If you need more assistance, let me know on my talk page and I'll guide you through it. -- Merope Talk 17:56, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Thank you! (Nekohakase 17:58, 19 September 2006 (UTC))

[edit] Deletion

Hi, I noticed you listed a few things at AfD that meet speedy deletion criteria. You may want to use it. Keep up the good work.--Andeh 18:54, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip! Fortunately those exceptional pages seem to be rare... I don't wat to make a mistake, so I want to see if anyone will contest the nomination. I could be wrong, especially when it comes to notability. Nekohakase 19:56, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Red Names

When I nominate a page for deletion, I want to notify the author to make changes if he wants to keep the page. However sometimes the author's name is a broken link - written in red. I see this often on "Nominated for Deletion" talk pages, too. What does that mean? Was the user banned (making the page a speedy candidate), simply "unknown" or do they not yet have a talkk page (in which case I need to create one for them if I want to notify the guy)? Nekohakase 19:56, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

It means that their user page or user talk page has not yet been created. This is usually because the user is new. You are free to post the first message to the user's talk page, and putting a Wikipedia:Welcome templates template ({{subst:Welcome}} is the most common, simple one) is usually a good idea too. Note that many such pages can still be speedily deleted or Prodded, which both require less hassle than the full AfD and is useful for clear, uncontroversial deletions. Many of these pages are created by random people advertising, posting junk articles about their friends, etc., who never return. —Centrxtalk • 20:12, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
It means that they have not yet created a page. Fastnaturedude 20:13, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Thank you. I was wondering how that template got on my page! Someone must have been nice enough to do it for me, so I will go about and extend the favour too. Much help appreciated! Nekohakase 20:19, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
