Thanks! Someday, I hope all of those templates will have blue links. (^.^) There's a wealth of information on the Japanese site; but, without an existing article, I know some people would be reluctant to make a new article about a station that they have experience with. No problem. Golden week was pretty boring this year. (*.*) I like your goal of convincing ALTs to add to their local area; and, if a few hours of grunt work leads to a few expanded pages, then it is a good thing for WP. I still have two lines to finish in Miyagi. One is down south, and the other one is the Kurihara line which is closing next year. I haven't decided how to treat that one. Hi Neier, Turns out there are other Naka Rivers, including one in Tochigi-Ibaraki (the others are not in eastern Honshu). Don't know which one the article's about. Fg2 11:01, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

I am not surprised that there's more than one. I scanned ja:中川, but it didn't seem to mention the Ibaraki one, but, it brings up ja:新中川. Actually, I misread the Japanese page to say it empties to the Pacific in Saitama – I fixed that. Neier 11:13, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed you made some edits with the summary "subst: Fc and Nft templates". I'm not complaining, but can you tell me what the reason is? Does it use more server power or something? As you can see, I am not considering a forfeit a legitimate game outcome, although I do concede the point. I think, though, that it is a safe assumption inasmuch as that for major athletic events (whether it is a professional league or something like this) we routinely assume that teams won't forfeit games. Although FIBA happens to have this silly system with the points, I think any high-level league would subject a team to rather harsh discipline if it forfeited a game, but it is such an extraordinary and bizarre situation it is always assumed that won't happen. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.42.16.135 (talk • contribs) .

Hi, Neier. You might want to weigh in here also: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shoko Goto. It was my contention during the deletion talk for List of Japanese female porn stars (saved in my workspace) that this editor had this list deleted by dishonest means with the intention of then emptying the category. He seems to be following through on that prophecy. Once both the list and the category are deleted, Wikipedia will have been effectively censored of all mention of Japanese adult model/actresses. By the way, Neier, I didn't mean to give the impression that I was trying to sway your recommendation at the discussion. My recommendation, if the list hadn't been deleted, would be to keep her name on the list. But that list was deleted, somehow, somewhere, sometime with the implication that a category (i.e., individual articles) was appropriate... The party nominating the deletion by paring it down to a category and stating, "This list really does not serve any purpose. That's what Categories are for. Hello, Neier. Since you are a leader in Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains in Japan, which I am a member of, may I ask you for your help? I found the Tama Plaza article while searching for Yokohama-related articles. I think it should be moved to Tama Plaza Station or Tama-Plaza Station, and linked from Tōkyū Den-en-toshi Line. At first, it looked like a similar problem exists with Azamino, which User:Tangotango solved by creating a new article Azamino Station; but, both of those articles have separate Japanese links. There is no article for たまプラーザ (just たまプラーザ駅) on the Japanese wiki, so I agree with you that it is a good idea to redirect this one to Tama-Plaza Station (with another redirect from Tama Plaza Station). Hi Neier,

As you can tell from Uetsu Main Line, I can't figure out how to name railroad stations. One of the things I find hardest to decide is what to write as separate words, what to hyphenate, and what to write as a single word. For example, in Uetsu Main Line, we now have Echigo-Hayakawa and Echigo-Kangawa, Uzen-Mizusawa and Uzen-Oyama (hyphenated) but Ugohonjo, Ugoiwaya, Ugokameda, Ugoushijima (solid, i.e. as a single word). I'm having trouble grasping the pattern. Of course, I personally don't know what pattern I follow with Kita and other compass directions. I guess you could say I'm lost! Personally, I like hyphens after directionals, unless I find proof that JR says otherwise. This site is very helpful in that regard, with actual pictures of the signs on most platforms. I thought Ugo- should be hyphenated as well (Like Echigo- and Uzen-). But, the pictures state otherwise. I don't understand the difference between Higashi-Sakata and Minamichōkai; so, I can't explain that pattern either. But, at least it's sourced.  :-) Neier 22:10, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Re: your suggestion on macrons for the prefectures, it might also be wise to highlight Kyūshū and Honshū as well while we're at it. Both these articles have the macron titles but then use the non-macroned "Kyushu" and "Honshu" in the bodies of the articles. Bobo12345 13:33, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Neier, thanks for working on the template in the OVOP article. I've been using the nihongo template for instances when the English is an approximation to the Japanese but differs in some way (reversed names, names that have a component not translated such as "-eki" etc.) but haven't been using it for honest English. Now it makes more sense, seeing that it eliminates an extra pair of parentheses. I'll start doing it that way. Fg2 11:09, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Well, as you see, in Japanese wikipedia, all stations are sorted into category named after railway companies. I don't think it's troubling with TOC using Romaji such as Ka, Chi, Kya. About what you called redundant categories, I dare say that categories named after lines are not needed. (Actually, however, I can't revise all of the stations in those categories.) Moreover, it differs from Japanese wikipedia's style and is confusing, I think... --Izumi5 13:06, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

I want to say there is somebody who wants to search directly from station name, and others will search from line name. So, how about sorting station articles into both categories named line name and company name? --Izumi5 09:01, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Hm... I just want it the same as Japanese one, and there is ja:Category:日本の鉄道駅 sorted by romaji, but ja:Category:東日本旅客鉄道 exists and it contains all of East Japan Railway Company stations. Also, there are still articles unsorted by line names (but for Tōhoku area). Hi Neier,

Just a note about Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Japan#"X in popular culture" sections of articles. Although so far three editors have spoken in favor of removing trivia sections and none against, it's too early to declare a consensus, so it might not be a convincing justification for removing "in popular culture" material. (In contrast, Wikipedia:Avoid trivia sections in articles, which you also cited, is part of the Manual of Style, so I suppose it has already gotten a consensus.) Fg2 01:03, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

It looks like User:Dekimasu had the same idea with his Hokkaidō edits. Anyway, I figured one of three things would happen after I edited the high-profile Shibuya article:

• Someone would revert it, at which point I would ask the user to discuss it on the project page
• Someone would go directly to the project page and make a case for it (either of these first two outcomes would be a good thing, as it would give us an opposing viewpoint which (as you noted) we don't have yet)
• It would remain (so far, so good; but, the internets always quiet down at Thanksgiving in the US).

Hi - as the categories were all empties as a result of the TfD, I've proceeded to delete them per the guidelines, and WP:CSD "Empty categories" (although that says "empty for five days", I'm pretty certain there won't be more items added within that time span!). Hi Neier! While I have no objection to assigning people to 'Category:People from Satsuma domain', I must object to deleting the pre-existing notations for 'Category:People from Kagoshima prefecture'. Since Satsuma domain exists only historically, and not presently, I feel that it is more convenient when searching to look by current prefecture, rather than attempting to cross-reference with the historical name, or even worse, a local town or city of origin. While some redundancy exists, I do not believe this to be too much of a distraction. You will note that there are a large number of bios are currently categorized by prefecture of origin at present. If you have no strong objections on this issue, I would appreciate restoration of each to the Category:People from Kagoshima prefecture.--MChew 14:24, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes! I think that your proposal to make a new split at Category:Japanese people, and create Category:Japanese people by historical province is a fantastic idea! Certainly this would be useful for people researching history, and would not conflict with catagorization guidelines. It will take a bit of work to set up, but I would be willing to help.

Also, since wiki catagorization need not be linear, I do not see any reason why Category:People from Satsuma Domain cannot also be a subcategory of Category:People from Kagoshima Prefecture. In this case Kagoshima and Satsuma are geographically the same; however, you could have (for example) Shizuoka prefecture, which spans Totomi, Suzuga and Izu historic provinces, and contains multiple domains within each historical province. Being able to go to People from Shizuoka prefecture, and having the option of going from there to each historical province would be a convenience.

I stand with you on elimination of the "People from X local city" catagories. With all of the recent mergers of cities and towns, this catagorization quickly becomes pretty unwieldy. --MChew 14:28, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello, Neier. I noticed that you've previously voted in Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles)/Prefectures and macrons. A similar poll on macrons is taking place until Dec. 13 at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles)#Poll: "Ryūkyū" instead of "Ryukyu". The voting seems to be deadlocked, with many outside voters rather than frequent contributors to the WP:JP project like yourself. It would really help if you can either comment or vote there, although I'll understand if you would prefer to stay out of the controversy. Thank you for your consideration.
