Nederlandse Operastudio
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Opera Studio Nederland (previously Internationaal Opera Centrum Nederland) was founded in 1990; it provides help for a small group of extremely talented young opera singers as they take their first steps in the profession. The Studio’s programme bridges the gap between initial conservatory training and the professional opera stage; its primary aim is to develop as personal an artistry as possible. A maximum of eight young singers are selected each year by audition for the Studio ensemble. Dutch candidates have priority, although singers from other countries are welcome as long as they fulfil the high standards that are demanded. The singers are under fulltime contract and receive a monthly grant.
The Studio’s programme is comparable to those of the Opera Studios in Paris, London and San Francisco. The Studio collaborates regularly with its sister institutions Operastudio Vlaanderen and the Opera Studio of the New National Theatre in Tokyo as well as with the National Opera of Thailand in Bangkok.
Opera Studio Nederland is run by director Hans Nieuwenhuis and conductor Winfried Maczewski. It is subsidised by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Opera Studio Nederland is a member of Opera America.
