Necronomicon is an American anthology horror film released in 1994. It was directed by Brian Yuzna, Christophe Gans and Shusuke Kaneko and was written by Brent V. Friedman, Christophe Gans, Kazunori Itô and Brian Yuzna. The three stories in the film are based on three H. P. Lovecraft short stories: "The Drowned" is based on "The Rats in the Walls", "The Cold" is based on "Cool Air" and "Whispers" is based on "The Whisperer in Darkness". The film stars Bruce Payne as Edward De Lapoer, Richard Lynch as Jethro De Lapoer, Jeffrey Combs as H. P. Lovecraft, Belinda Bauer as Nancy Gallmore and David Warner as Dr. Madden.

From the master of terror comes a chilling tale of unspeakable evil.

The film is broken into four separate features, "The Library", "The Drowned", "The Cold", and "Whispers". "The Library" segment is the wrap-around story, which begins and ends the movie.

In the wrap-around segment of the film, H.P. Lovecraft (Jeffrey Combs) uses his skills to gain access to a hidden portion of a library, eventually uncovering the legendary Necronomicon and foiling the plans of several Elder Gods, disguised as monks.

A man buys a home overlooking the ocean, unaware of the horrific history it holds. As the pieces of the puzzle come together, he discovers the sad tale of its previous inhabitants and the monster they unwittingly unleashed upon the world.

A woman rents an apartment, but the elderly man who lives upstairs is too mysterious to ignore. She soon realizes that he is keeping himself alive using supernatural forces - and there are people in the building willing to kill in order to keep his secret safe.

A policewoman and her partner are involved in an accident late one night. When they awaken they find themselves trapped in a maze of body parts, gore, and alien-like parasites with a taste for bone marrow.

Necronomicon was well received upon its initial VHS release in America, but did substantially better in European and Asian markets.
