Neßmersiel belongs to the municipality Dornum in the rural district Aurich in Lower Saxony

Neßmersiel is 5 kilometres from the northwest from Dornum. The at 1570 builded harbour, where grain to Bremen, Hamburg, the Netherlands and Norway where shipped, mudded because the dikes and must stopped 1700. The Harbour moved nearer to the sea, in 1930 this point where stopped, too. In 1969/70 a harbour was build, who lets ferries drive to Baltrum. Neßmersiel is famous for mud-flats walking. From Neßmersiel, the most walkings at the east frisian northseacoast where made. Nowhere you can made so much different excurisons. The Town Neßmersiel is behind a dike and had mostly hollidayhouses. At the beach you find a playground for children, hoe others in town, too. In Neßmersiel are restaurants, hotels, cafes, and little shops.

In the end of 2006 the Strandoase will be to MUDO (Multifunktionszentrum Gemeinde Dornum) with 3D-cinema, wellness-parc, restaurant and many other.
