Nawabs of Bengal
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Nawabs of Bengal were originally provincial governors under the Mughal empire. However, after the nawab Siraj Ud Daulah was defeated by the British forces of Sir Robert Clive at the Battle of Plassey in 1757 they became puppet rulers dependent on British power. The nawab to replace Siraj-ud-daula was Mir Jafar, personally led to the throne by Clive in the wake of the battle.
