Talk:National Minimum Drinking Age Act
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Largely unconstitutional for those who are Libertarian or hold a strict interpretation of the Constitution in their world view. Article I, Section 8 of the United States Constitution states that the responsibility of maintaining post roads (which highways, for instance, are) falls to the Federal government. It also states that these duties and levies will be uniform (equal) throughout the United States. The Natonal Minimum Drinking Age Act signed into effect by President Reagan would be unconstitutional and illegal from this outlook because it: 1.) Neglects the Federal government's responsibility to maintain post roads in states which did not raise their drinking age -and in doing this 2.) Violate the portion of the clause which states that this process must be done uniformly
It would be nice to have a citation for the dubious-sounding stat about a mojority of teenagers supporting the drinking age.

It says that moderate drinking has been replaced with binge drinking, but most students don't binge drink. That's a false impression created by the attention binge drinkers receive on the news. I just took a course on alcohol and saw some statistics, but I don't know where to find them online. Either way, the statement about binge drinking sounds very POV to me.

- It's also encouraged by the fact that those surveys routinely "define" binge drinking not as excessive or uncontrolled consumption of alcohol, but simply as consumption of five or more drinks on a single occasion. That is obviously a binge for some and not others, and depends on how and why they're consumed that way.
Two of the listed references (including one which is provided by Potsdam University faculty) refer to this as the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984, not 1985. I have edited the article to reflect this. 'Net 02:59, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
This law seems very ill-considered. Which is more harmful to society: a 14 year old drinking half a glass of wine with dinner, or an American college student drinking beer from a funnel?Mobrienil 00:38, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
