FAS (link 1 above) got it near-verbatim from the US Library of Congress at [2] ... it's a Federal Research Division COuntry Study, so it's public domain. The only concern is whether the FAS presentation of it changed anything that might be copyrighted... not sure. - FZ 20:01, 19 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Removed the following for POV reasons:

  • The SNI, CIE, and other intelligence agencies were the most dubious legacy that the military regime left to the New Republic.
  • The scars of repression and violence, including the mistreatment, torture, and murder of prisoners, will mark the officer corps for years to come.
