Natsilane

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Natsilane is a mythological hero from the stories of the Tlingit people. In his story he is credited as having created the "blackfish," or Orca, by carving it out of wood. He created it to exact revenge on his elder brother-in-laws for their betrayal of him while on a hunting trip. After that action the "blackfish" were told never to attack a human being again.

Natsilane's story has many parallels to stories in other cultures, such as the Christian story of Joseph who was sold into slavery by his brothers. It also bears resemblance to the stories of the Greek god Hephaestus who created life through his metalworking.
