Nationaltheatret in Oslo, Norway is both an underground railway station on the Norwegian railway system, and a subway station on the Oslo T-bane. The two parts of the station are connected, the railway station lying beneath the subway station. The station is located by Nationaltheatret, the largest theatre in Norway.
[edit] Railway station
The railway station is located in Oslotunnelen between Skøyen and Oslo Sentralstasjon, and was completed in 1980. It is the only underground station on the main Norwegian network. There was originally only a single platform with a track at either side, but in 1999 a second platform was built. Formerly, the long-distance express trains passed through Nationaltheateret without stopping, but in June 2006 most of these trains, with the exception of night trains, are also scheduled to make a short stop at the station. Nationaltheatret is the second largest railway station in Norway in terms of passenger volume, second only to Oslo Sentralstasjon. The walking distance for making a connection between local train and subway is shorter at Nationaltheateret than at Oslo S.
[edit] Subway station
The subway station is on the shared track of the T-Bane, between the station of Majorstuen and Stortinget. It was built in 1928 as the first underground station in Oslo. Until the completion of the station at Stortinget, Nationaltheateret was the end terminus for all the western metro lines. The station is located 0.7 km from Stortinget and is elevated 5.4 meters above sea level.
