National Synarchist Union

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Synarchist Union (Spanish: Unión Nacional Sinarquista) was the leading party of Mexican synarchism in pre-World War II Mexico.

Founded in 1937 by José Antonio Urquiza, the party advocated a strongly Catholic brand of counterrevolutionary protest that has been compared to European fascism. The movement reached its peak in 1940 under the leadership of Salvador Abascal, although he clashed with moderates and was replaced by Torres Bueno the following year.

The movement was eventually replaced by the Popular Force Party in 1946, although it soon fell behind the more Christian democratic National Action Party as the main outlet of opposition to the governing Institutional Revolutionary Party. It currently exists as a national political association.
