[edit] School Prayer and Song
The School Prayer is adapted from the poem "Give me the strength" in Rabindranath Tagore's "Gitanjali".
- This is my prayer to thee, my lord
- Strike, strike at the root of penury in my heart.
- Give me the strength lightly to bear my joys and sorrows.
- Give me the strength to make my love fruitful in service.
- Give me the strength never to disown the poor
- Or bend my knees before insolent might.
- Give me the strength to raise my mind high above daily trifles.
- And give me the strength to surrender my strength to thy will with love.
The School Song is a rendition of an adapted version of "Shine, Let it Shine!".
- Lord, help us to reach out to others
- In the midst of our darkness shining
- Let the light of our alma mater shine on us
- Set us free from the shackles of ignorance
- Shine on us
- Shine on us
(Chorus)
- Shine, let it shine
- Fill our school with honour and glory
- Blaze, spirit blaze
- Set our hearts on fire
- Flow, river flow
- Flood our nation with peace and harmony
- Help us reach out, reach high, reach beyond!
- Lord, help us to reach high above us
- Keep our feet ever firm on the ground
- Lord, we come to your mighty presence
- From the shadow into your radiance
- Shine on us
- Shine on us
- (Chorus)
- Lord, help us to reach beyond horizons
- Show us a vision that's filled with your wisdom
- Mirrored here may we shine an endeavour
- Glorify the name of NPS forever
- Shine on us
- Shine on us
- (Chorus)
[edit] The Houses
Students are admitted to one of four houses: Challengers, Explorers, Pioneers or Voyagers. Each house has its distinct identity and house heritage. The Challengers, in their scarlet, aim "To strive, to seek, to find but not to yield" (a line written by Lord Alfred Tennyson). The Explorers, dressed in purple, "Endeavour to Reach Beyond". The Pioneers, in amber, are "The light that always shows, the spark that always glows". The Voyagers, in sky blue, proclaim "Vigour, Valour, Victory". The winner of the House Cup each year is determined on the basis of results of a number of activities, including quizzing, debating, writing, singing, dancing, and games and athletics. In the past five years, each of the four houses has laid their hands on the trophy once.
