National Nuclear Data Center

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Nuclear Data Center provides information services in the fields of low and medium energy nuclear physics to users in the United States and Canada. In particular, the Center can provide information on neutron, charged-particle, and photonuclear reactions, nuclear structure, and decay data.

[edit] Location and Affiliations

The NNDC, located Upton, New York, is a part of Brookhaven National Laboratory. NNDC is sponsored by the Office of Nuclear Physics, the Office of Science, and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

[edit] Mission

National Nuclear Data Center collects, evaluates, and disseminates nuclear physics for basic nuclear physics research and applied technologies. The NNDC maintains and contributes to the nuclear structure (ENSDF,XUNDL,NSR) and reaction (ENDF,CSISRS,CINDA) databases. The center prepares photo-ready copy for Nuclear Data Sheets journal, publishes Nuclear Wallet Cards booklet and provides coordination and maintains databases for the Cross Section Evaluation Working Group(CSEWG) and the US Nuclear Data Program(USNDP).

[edit] Nuclear Databases

include Evaluated Nuclear Structure Data File(ENSDF), Evaluated Nuclear (reaction) Data File (ENDF), Nuclear Science References(NSR) and many others.

[edit] Data Contributors

NNDC major data contributors include members of Nuclear Structury and Decay Data (NSDD) and Nuclear Reaction Data Centers (NRDC) networks, as well as USNDP and CSEWG.

[edit] Data Users

In 2004 users from 11,000 organizations used NNDC Web service and conducted 560,000 successful data retrievals. NNDC data users include:

  • U.S. Government Organizations,
  • U.S. Higher Education,
  • Private Industry,
  • International Organizations,
  • Foreign Laboratories and Universities.
