National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur

In 2002, the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, decided to upgrade, in phases, all seventeen Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs) as National Institutes of Technology (NITs), on the lines of the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). NIT Jamshedpur was amongst the first REC's to be upgraded to the NIT status. N.I.T Jamshedpur was formerly Regional Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur. It was one of the first regional colleges of India established as part of the second five year plan. The college being located in the special economy zone for automobile, it has rich culture for research and development opportunities, especially in product design.

FACES stands for Fine Arts Club for Engineering Students. It is well known for its annual event SHADES. The art exhibition is a standout event in the college calendar.

The club was pioneered by the Batch of 1988 - 1992.

Founder office bearers were:

1. E Phanikumar - Did his PG from National Institute of Design and presently heads the firm "Firefly" at Hyderabad, India and is into animation films etc. He also won a National Award for Special Effects for the work in the Telugu feature film "Anji"

2. Felix Thomas - Still an active artist but only when he is free from his duties of serving the Nation. He is presently with the Indian Navy as a Commander and is at Pune after his M.Tech in Marine Engineering

The literary and debating society popularly called LDS in the insti organises a wide range of literary activities in the college. LDS is widely renoen for their events such as Baby's Week Out, SSMQ, and Endeavour - the magazine .Currently,Dion S Antao has been elected as the general Seceretary of the club and S.Natarajan as the Joint Seceretary of the club.

The LDS conducts events ranging from Freshers Group Discussion, Dumb Charades, Penta Hurdles, JAM, Extempore, Mock Press, Freshers Quiz, Crosswords, Debate etc. The batch of 1999 - 2003 also pioneered the Inter Hostel Literary fest - FLEX (Fest for Literary EXcellence).

The magazine from the Department of Production Engg and Management. A judicious mixture of Technical and Literary articles, Prodigy was a pure team work of the whole Department.

The institute has a very strong alumni and spread all across the globe. The institute offers wide variety of academic as well as research oriented courses. The college has 12 hostels and a state of the art fully functional digital library and a two storey computer center. The center provides round the clock internet connectivity through VSAT.
