National Chiao Tung University (Traditional Chinese: 國立交通大學; Hanyu Pinyin: Gúolì Jiāotōng Dàxúe; Tongyong Pinyin: Gúolì Jiaotong Dàsyúe; abbreviated as NCTU) is a top-tier research university located in Hsinchu, Taiwan, ROC. It was established by former Chiao Tung University faculty members and alumni in 1958. The university is renowned for its research and teaching excellence in electrical engineering, computer science, and management science. Currently, NCTU has more IEEE Fellows (16) on its faculty than any other university in Taiwan. Its alumni also dominate Taiwan's electronics and computer industries with more than 500 Presidents and CEO's. The university and its neighbor National Tsing Hua University have been competing with each other on many fronts since the inception of both schools. This rivalry is best exemplified by the annual Mei-Chu tournament (梅竹賽) held in March. NCTU consists of 9 colleges, ranging from Electrical Engineering to Computer Science to Management.
