National Bureau of Investigation or NBI is a premier investigative agency of the Philippines under the functional supervision of the Department of Justice. NBI bears considerable similarities with the United States' Federal Bureau of Investigation in its organizational structure and function. NBI's motto is: Nobility, Bravery and Integrity ...efficient law enforcement in the pursuit of truth and justice.

Historically, the NBI under the direction of the President of the Philippines through the Secretary of Justice carries out special tasks beyond its criminal prosecuting powers. These tasks may involved investigating cases, which have patent national security implications. It started as the Department of Investigation in 1936, and was replaced by the Bureau of Investigation in 1947 by virtue of Republic Act No. 157.

The NBI is responsible in handling or solving sensational cases, notably like the Vizconde Massacre, Cory Quirino Kidnapping case, I-LOVE-YOU Virus case, Dacer-Corbito Murder case, Rizal Day Bombings, and the arrest of several prominent and/or notorious figures.

The NBI has several regional and district offices as well as several offices with its corresponding specialization in investigation. It also has its own special operations groups, like the Anti-Terrorism Division (ATD), Raid, Arrest, and Interdiction Division (RAID), and the Special Task Force (STF). Its intelligence operations is operated by the Office of the Deputy Director for Intelligence Services (ODDIS).

It has detailed several of its personnel with other government and law-enforcement agencies, like the Presidential Anti-Crime Commission (PACC), Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force (PAOCTF), National Anti-Kidnapping Task Force (NAKTF), and Bureau of Customs (BoC), etc., etc.
