[edit] NAACURH (former)
The North Atlantic Affiliate was formed in 1964. In 1990 it split into the current Northeast (NEACURH) and Central Atlantic (CAACURH) regions.
[edit] Sub-regions
Many regions have formed sub-regions with varying levels of officiality. Some of these sub-regions are informal, while others hold their own additional "Sub-Regionals" conferences. In some cases, sub-regions are limited to one state.
MACURH is split into three subregions, each of which have been officially recognized by MACURH and assigned their own Regional Communications Coordinator from the region. The North is composed of Manitoba, Minnesota South Dakota and North Dakota. The Central subregion is composed of Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska. The South subregion is Missouri. These boundaries are fluid and may be re-examined every year if need changes.
NEACURH's informal subregions of New York and New England were officially recognized and organized in 2006 in the same vein as MACURH's subregions.
PACURH is split into Northern, Central, and Southern sub-regions. The latter two split through California and Nevada.
SAACURH does not have sub-regions. However, each state within the region has formed an independent state association. For example, Tennessee's TACURH is wholly independent of NACURH or the SAACURH regional association, though half of its member schools also comprise the wide majority of Tennessee colleges in SAACURH. TACURH holds its own annual conference. [1] The other state associations in SAACURH have similar membership overlaps and independent conferences.
GLACURH does not have organized sub-regions, although it dedicates one regional coordinator to each state and provice. Some states and Ontario have formed independent state associations, similar to the situation in SAACURH. These state/province associations are known as MORHA, ORHA, WURHA, IRHA, and IRHO.
SWACURH and CAACURH do not have sub-regions or state associations, and divide their RCC's based on topic area rather than sub-region or state.
IACURH had 3 geographic sub-regions which were abolished in favor of RCC's based upon topic area like SWACURH and CAACURH..

[edit] History
In 1954, the Iowa State Residence Halls Government formed ties with RHAs at University of Colorado, University of Missouri, and University of Northern Iowa, and organized the Midwest Dormitory Conference. In 1955, the name of the group was changed to The Association of College and University Residence Halls (ACURH).
A similar organization, the Inter-Mountain Residence Hall Association (IMRHA), merged with ACURH in 1961, adding the word "National" to the name of the organization (NACURH). The association was split into two "associate" regions, MACURH and IACURH, based on the two original groups, which became devolved in 1964. In that year, PACURH, SAACURH, and NAACURH were also created. GLACURH was split from MACURH in 1968, and SWACURH likewise in 1980. In 1990, NAACURH was wholly split into CAACURH and NEACURH.
NACURH incorporated as a non-profit under Oklahoma laws in 1971, granting non-profit incorporation to its associates, which became "affiliates" under the now NACURH, Inc. corporate umbrella. In 1997, the corporation and its Affiliates gained tax-exempt status.

[edit] Association of Alumni and Friends of NACURH (AAFN)
In January, 1982, the NACURH National Board of Directors (NBD) approved a resolution authorizing a NACURH alumni association. This brochure was designed to introduce the "Association of Alumni and Friends of NACURH" to the general membership.
In a nutshell, for a minimum contribution of $100 to the NACURH reserve fund that was established, any individual may join the association. Contributions to the association will not be spent; however, interest monies generated from this reserve fund will be available for current needs if necessary. It is anticipated that interest monies will ultimately be used for leadership development and recognition scholarships once the initial membership goal is realized.
The primary benefit to any individual who joins will be recognition of support. The individual's name, institution of choice, and year of personal significance will be published as part of the conference program along with appropriate recognition at the annual conference closing awards banquet each year. In addition, this brochure will be annually updated, distributed at national and regional conferences, and sent to all individuals on the alumni and friends mailing list. It is anticipated that this will generate symbolic as well as actual support of NACURH by individuals who were active in NACURH or from other professionals who were active as advisors but are no longer able to attend our annual conference. Members of the alumni and friends association will receive an invitation to attend and be recognized at each annual NACURH Conference.
