[edit] History
The original Nation of Domination was in the USWA. The group was led by PG-13. The group also consisted of: Kareem Olajuwon, Sir Mohammad, Akeem Mohammad, Elijah, Shaquille Ali, Randy X, and Queen Moisha. This group never really got off of the ground, but the WWF version of the Nation of Domination worked out a lot better.
The heel group was originally formed in the WWF when wrestler Faarooq was joined by manager Clarence Mason. The group was based loosely on the Nation of Islam. The two men were also accompanied by two unnamed actors Albert Armstrong and William Beach who were supposed to represent other members of the Nation. Other wrestlers joined the Nation over time, including (in order) PG-13 (a tag team consisting of JC Ice and Wolfie D.), Crush, Savio Vega, and D'Lo Brown. This lineup of the group remained intact until Faarooq became angry with them and fired the entire group with the exception of Brown.
Faarooq promised that he would deliver a "bigger and blacker" version of the Nation, which lead to the induction of Kama Mustafa and Ahmed Johnson into the group. Johnson would be forced out of the group due to injury and replaced by Rocky Maivia (later known as The Rock). The Rock later took over from Faarooq opposing the likes of DX. Meanwhile, former Nation members Vega and Crush formed their own rival factions, Los Boricuas and the Disciples of Apocalypse respectively. This lead to a WWF style "gang war" that was heavily critcized for separating each faction by race, eventually turning the "gang war" into an angle based on racism.
In the following months, the Nation feuded with Los Boricuas and the Disciples of Apocalypse with Ahmed Johnson eventually starting feuds with the Nation as well. Toward the end of the year, "The World's Strongest Man", Mark Henry, joined the group.
In the beginning of 1998, The Rock went on to usurp leadership of the Nation from Faarooq, at which point the group dropped "of Domination" from its name permanently. The group engaged in a memorable rivalry with D-Generation X. At this time, Owen Hart, who had a rivalry with D-Generation X leader, Triple H, would join the Nation.
Toward the end of the year, the group quietly disbanded as The Rock turned face and Owen left the group. The Rock was assaulted by D'Lo and Henry. Each member would move on to their own storylines.
[edit] D-Generation X parody
D-Generation X, along with comedian Jason Sensation, parodied the Nation on the July 6, 1998 episode of RAW, with each member of D-X dressing as a Nation member and impersonating their characterictic mannerisms.
Nation member: | D-X member: | Parody character: | Distinguishing features and mannerisms: |
The Rock | Triple H | The Crock | Self-deprecating catchphrases, exaggerated version of The People's Eyebrow. |
D'Lo Brown | Road Dogg | B'Lo Brown | Chest protector, head-shaking, use of the word "brother." |
Mark Henry | X-Pac | Mizark Henry | Pecs which went "all the way around to the back", voracious appetite. |
The Godfather | Billy Gunn | The Gunnfather | Use of the word "Westside." |
Owen Hart | Jason Sensation | Owen Hart | Large prosthetic nose, nasal voice, costume made out of caution tape, use of the word "damn." |
[edit] Nation of Domination rap lyrics and Nation of Domination Pledge of Allegiance
In the early days of the Nation of Domination, Wolfie D. and J.C. Ice would rap the lyrics of the NoD's theme live as the group would walk down the aisle.
We are the Nation...of Domination (rappers start)
We are the nation comin' live and in color
Don't dis the man or we'll bum rush your mother
Listen what I'm sayin'
It's for real not playin'
Faarooq is the man hit your knees and start prayin'
Nation...of Domination
Power like the bear, but quick like the cat
Put 2 and 2 together
Put your face on the mat
You count the stars while the ref counts three
Hope you like to look at ceilings
'Cause that's all you're gonna see
He's harder than a rock
And he can't be stopped
You suckas step to the side 'less you wanna get dropped
Boys from the hood are on the M-I-C
Spittin' out the lyrics JC Ice and Wolfie D
Clarence Mason is the boss Crossin' T's and dottin' I's
He tells the truth
The whole truth
He never tells a lie
Nation...of Domination
After the rap was performed, J.C. Ice would recite the NoD's "pledge of allegiance", which was loosely based on the American pledge of allegiance.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the Nation of Domination.
And to the republic for which it stands.
One nation under Faarooq.
Indivisible, with liberty and justice for no-one!
By any means necessary!
On other occasions, a rapper would simply end the group's entrance with their catch phrase, "By any means necessary", immediately after which, the Nation members, all lined up, would each lift their right fists forward. The NoD rap and the NoD pledge of allegiance were both dropped when Faarooq fired everybody but D'Lo Brown from the NoD.
